Toledo Surges Up ECHL Rankings, Idaho Stays On Top

The Idaho Steelheads remain on top of FloHockey’s very unofficial ECHL power rankings this week, but the Toledo Walleye are quickly establishing themselves as a very credible threat to win back-to-back Western Conference titles with an exceptionally hot streak that’s now carried them to a season-high position in this list.

1) Idaho Steelheads (41-8-1-2) (Last Week: 1)

Idaho hasn’t lost in regulation in its last nine contests and recently became the league’s first 40-win team with a three-game sweep at home of the Maine Mariners, allowing just one goal over the first 120 minutes of play, before squeaking out a 5-4 victory in Saturday’s finale.

2) Toledo Walleye (33-15-4-2) (Last Week: 3)

The Walleye haven’t lost in regulation since Jan. 29 and haven’t been defeated at all since Feb. 4, good for a 12-game streak in which they’ve collected at least one point.

That includes a dominant showing this past weekend against both Rapid City and Wichita, in which the Walleye outscored them collectively by a 14-2 margin.

3) Newfoundland Growlers (37-14-1-0) (Last Week: 2)

Despite falling one spot, the Growlers remain a really, really good hockey club and still the likely favorite to once again emerge out of the East.

They took 2-of-3 games in Trois-Rivieres this past week.

4) Cincinnati Cyclones (32-12-5-3) (Last Week: 4)

Another red-hot team toward the top of the standings, the Cyclones have gone nine games without a regulation loss and scored a combined 16 goals in their three victories this past week over Norfolk, Wichita and Indy.

5) Jacksonville Icemen (34-16-2-0) (Last Week: 5)

Tom Kazansky’s favorite hockey team remains in fifth this week, splitting a lighter schedule of just two games on Friday and Saturday.

They recovered nicely from being shut out by Atlanta to beat Worcester, 4-1, in the finale.

6) Florida Everblades (30-14-4-3) (Last Week: 7)

A three-game slate at home against a bottom-half team like the Kansas City Mavericks has gotten the Everblades back on track, with wins in two of those contests move them up one notch this week.

7) Indy Fuel (32-19-2-0) (Last Week: 6)

On the flip side of that, Indy moves down a spot after back-to-back blowout losses at home, albeit against quality opponents in Toledo and Cincinnati.

8) Greenville Swamp Rabbits (29-16-7-0) (Last Week: 10)

Wins in 2-of-3 contests have Greenville on the rise this week, with the team’s only setback being a one-goal loss to Orlando on the road Sunday.

9) South Carolina Stingrays (30-16-4-1) (Last Week: 11)

Similar to Greenville, two wins was enough to get the ‘Rays up two spots in the rankings this week, with big victories over Fort Wayne and Atlanta cementing them back into the top 10.

10) Orlando Solar Bears (26-22-6-1) (Last Week: 14)

The Solar Bears have been poking their noses around the top 10 all season and make a long-awaited return to the top tier after a solid showing this past week, which included wins over Utah and Greenville.
