The inaugural United Collegiate Hockey Cup is set to drop the puck near St. Louis, Mo., Thursday night. The first-of-its kind tournament will feature each of the five independent men’s college hockey programs at the NCAA Division I level playing for a postseason title.

Maryville University, based in St. Louis, Mo., announced Wednesday its plans to elevate its men’s hockey program to the NCAA Division I level. The school currently houses multiple ACHA teams including a successful ACHA D1 men’s team.
