
A native of Newton, Kansas, Hendrickson was a two time state champion and three time finalist for Newton high school. Hendrickson was a four time All - American at the Fargo national championships for both freestyle and greco. Hendrickson was also a USA wrestling folkstyle All - American. A runner - up at the Super 32 championships, Hendrickson won titles at the NHSCA senior nationals and the Flonationals.

Wyatt Hendrickson graduated from the Air Force Academy then transferred to Oklahoma State to wrestle for Olympic gold medalist David Taylor. He went on to beat Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson to win the NCAA title. He followed that up with a first place finish at the US Open and defeated Trent Hillger in two matches earning the right to represent the United States at the World Championships in the fall.
