By winning the Last Chance Olympic Qualification Tournament at Men's Freestyle 86 kg, Takatani qualified Japan for the Tokyo Olympics. It will be Takatani's third Olympics, and he will look to make his first podium after failing to reach one in both 2012 and 2016.
