Salas has had a stellar career competing for Cuba with international results that span all the way back to 2006. Salas hit the ground running with a gold medal at the senior level Pan Am championships and a bronze at the junior worlds to follow up. Once Salas hit the senior circuit full time, he put together a string of results where he was collecting medals at virtually every tournament he entered in going up to 2015.
