The Berlin Marathon has been the site of more world records than any other marathon race. Since its first edition in 1974, its fast course has become a destination for runners chasing history. Thirteen world records have been set there so far, and Tigst Assefa returns in 2026 with a chance to make it 14.

The 2026 BMW Berlin Marathon often promises fast racing conditions. The 2025 rendition saw World Record Holder Sabastian Sawe run 2:02:16, while Rosemary Wanjiru claimed victory in the women's race with her 2:21:05.

The BMW Berlin Marathon returns in 2026, bringing one of the biggest events on the global marathon calendar back to the streets of Germany’s capital. The race takes place Sunday, Sept. 27, with the action getting underway at 2:30 a.m. ET.
