Campbell Breaks Halftime Tie With 31 Unanswered Third-Quarter Points, Rolls To Win Over Hampton

Campbell quarterback Kamden Sixkiller quickly is becoming one of the biggest passing threats in FCS football, and his elite performance Saturday helped the Camels to a 44-20 statement win over Hampton.

And what’s the statement, exactly?

Well, Campbell now is 4-1 on the season and one of three two-win teams in the Coastal Athletic Association standings.

Any win in the loaded CAA is a big one, and this victory was especially important for the Camels, as their conference slate will only get tougher as the season progresses. 

Monmouth also is 2-0 in conference play this season, while Elon is 2-1.

Campbell still has six CAA games on the horizon, with the final game of the regular season being a Nov. 21 home showdown with Monmouth.

In the win over Hampton (1-4, 0-2), Sixkiller was 24 of 31 for 308 yards and five touchdowns. 

The five touchdown tosses was a season-best, topping the four he had last week against North Carolina A&T, while he cleared 300 passing yards for the fourth time in five games this year.

His most successful target Saturday was sophomore wide receiver Chinua Ezeigbo, who caught two passes for 98 yards and two scores, while 12 receivers combined for the team’s 27 total receptions.

The Camels had 537 yards of total offense, but the win was a complete effort for the squad, after a fumble on the opening kickoff allowed Hampton to jump out to a quick 3-0 lead.

The Campbell defense had two sacks, recovered two fumbles and had two interceptions, and though the team’s offense was slow out of the gate, the Camels broke a 13-all halftime tie with 31 unanswered points in the third quarter. 

The contest was the fifth meeting in history between Campbell and Hampton. 

Their first clash came in 2019, and the Camels lead the series 4-1, which includes victories in 2019, 2023 and 2025. The Hampton win in 2021 later was vacated due to NCAA violations.

Surging Campbell joined the CAA in 2023 and went 4-4 in conference play. The Camels were 1-7 in 2024 and 2-6 in 2025 (while going 2-10 overall).

After defeating North Carolina A&T last week, Campbell moved into the FCS top 25 for the first time in the school’s unique football history.

In the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll, the Camels landed at No. 22, just behind the other CAA team in the top 25, reigning CAA champion Rhode Island (No. 19).

Campbell also received votes in the American Football Coaches Association FCS Coaches Poll, and the top 25 definitely is within reach after the strong showing against Hampton.

Saturday’s game was the 200th of the modern era of Campbell football. During that stretch, the Camels are 72-128. 

Next up for the Camels is the final nonconference game of the season, a visit to North Carolina Central.

Hampton also will have a nonconference matchup and will host Howard in the Battle of the Real HU.

Campbell Defense Adds Second Interception

Taylor throws his second INT of the night. He's intercepted up the middle by sophomore safety Kareem Williams, who returns it to the Campbell 25-yard line.

Sophomore quarterback Grayson Harvey enters the game for the Camels, replacing standout Sixkiller.

Sixkiller was 24 for 31 for 308 yards and a season-best five touchdowns.

Taylor finds Isaiah Smith from 5 yards out to cut into Hampton's deficit against Campbell.

Starling adds the extra point to make it 44-20.

Taylor is 17 of 30 for 188 yards and a touchdown, but also threw a costly interception.

The Camels scored 31 unanswered points in the third quarter against Hampton and now lead 44-13 with 15 minutes left to play.

On the first play of the next Hampton drive, Gavin Harris intercepts a Taylor pass and gives Campbell the ball at its own 36-yard line.

Sixkiller needs just one play to add to the Campbell lead. He connects with Ezeigbo for a 64-yard score. It's his fifth touchdown pass of the night. 

He is 23 for 30 for 306 yards and five TDs.

Sixkiller is the first Campbell QB with 20 or more completions and two or fewer incompletions in a game, and shining again under center against Hampton.

Sixkiller, Campbell Pulling Away Against Hampton, Camels Lead 37-13

The Camels make the most of the opportunity after the fumble and quickly march 22 yard for another score.

Sixkiller hits Christian Campbell for a 6-yard score. He ties a season-best with his fourth touchdown pass.

Campbell now has scored 24 points in the third quarter, after the game was knotted at 13 at halftime.

Hampton fumbles the ball again (Tre'Von Thomas), and sophomore linebacker AJ Benton is able to recover for Campbell.

It was the first play of the Hampton drive.

The Camels aren't able to find the end zone again, but they add three points with a 24-yard field goal from Robison.

De'Von Thomas finds the end zone again for Campbell, this time on the receiving end of a Sixkiller pass.

The two connected for a 29-yard score, and Robison added the extra point to give the Camels a 27-13 advantage.

It is the first receiving touchdown of the year for Thomas, who ran for a TD earlier in the third quarter.

Campbell Breaks Through With First Touchdown Of Second Half Against Hampton

It took almost half the quarter, but Campbell breaks through and is back on top against Hampton.

Sophomore running back De'Von Thomas puts the Camels ahead with a 2-yard burst up the middle. The TD completes a 10-play, 82-yard drive.

Taylor starts the second quarter with a rough attempt for a loss of 5 yards.

Sophomore running back Gracen Goldsmith gets the ball on second and goal and scampers in for a 7-yard touchdown run.

Senior quarterback Tre'Von Taylor completes a 21-yard pass to tight end Dedrick Borden to get Hampton to the 1-yard line as time is about to expire.

Campbell Gets Redemption With Huge Kick Return

Gullette attempts to make up for his earlier fumble. 

He receives the kick at the 13-yard line and returns it to inside the Hampton 30.

Unfortunately, the Camels can't capitalize on the opportunity and must attempt a field goal. 

The attempt from junior kicker Kaleb Robison is blocked by senior defensive lineman Chris Jackson.

The Pirates get the ball back on their own 20-yard line.
