The Cardinals were dominant from all sides of the ball in the first half, using a balanced effort and potent passing attack to build a 34-10 advantage, and they rolled to a 41-24 victory.

Despite the final score, which included Kingsville scoring all 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Javelinas actually outperformed the Cardinals offensively.

Kingsville rolled up 464 total yards on 78 plays (355 passing, 109 rushing), while SVSU was quiet on the ground for just 66 yards and added 326 through the air for 392 yards on 62 plays.

The Cardinals were able to capitalize on 89 Kingsville penalty yards, two interceptions and two lost fumbles, and that allowed them to score offensive, defensive and special teams touchdowns in the win.

SVSU quarterback Connor Wolf was nearly untouchable through the air before halftime, connecting on 7 of 10 passes for 242 yards and touchdowns of 74, 20 and 79 yards to different receivers. 

The other two SVSU scores in the first half were a blocked punt for a touchdown in the first quarter and a 66-yard interception return from redshirt junior defensive back Christian Ellison early in the second period.

Wolf finished the contest 13 for 20 for 326 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.

The sore spots for the Cardinals in the first half came from the front line. They had negative yardage on the ground (-11), while Wolf was sacked four times in 30 minutes of play. 

Texas A&M Kingsville also was strong under center in the first half, with redshirt sophomore quarterback Mills Dawson going 21 for 31 for 197 yards and a touchdown. He did have the one costly interception, however, and was sacked once.

Dawson’s lone touchdown toss of the first half came in the first quarter, giving the Javelinas a 10-6 lead with just over six minutes left in the opening quarter.

The fourth-quarter surge from the Javelinas featured a 3-yard touchdown run from redshirt sophomore running back Levi Fontenot and a 6-yard touchdown pass from Dawson to sophomore tight end Fischer Franck.

Dawson finished the game 32 for 48 for 355 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.

Saturday's showdown was the fourth meeting between the two teams, and SVSU now leads the series 3-1, including three consecutive wins (2019, 2021, 2026). Kingsville won their first matchup in 1980, a 52-0 rout.

SVSU improves to 2-0 on the season and will hit the road next week to face Northwood.

Kingsville falls to 0-2 and will have next week to regroup. The Javelinas will be back in action at home Sept. 19 against Eastern New Mexico.

Time Running Out For Texas A&M-Kingsville Against SVSU

It's the two-minute warning for SVSU and TAMK.

The Javelinas have the ball on their own 32-yard line. It's first and 10 after a 22-yard pass from Dawson to sophomore wide receiver Tracy James Jr.

The Texas A&M-Kingsville offense is sparked by the special teams success, and the Javelinas are able to find the end zone on the ground.

Fontenot takes it up the middle for a 3-yard score, and Gauna adds the extra point.

SVSU Football Misses FG Attempt, Cardinals Remain Ahead 41-10

Penalties have been costly for Kingsville, leading to many opportunities for SVSU.

However, at least here, the defense and special teams unit kept the Cardinals from inflicting any further damage.

The Cardinals have a first-and-6 opportunity on the TAMK 6-yard line, but continued struggles on the ground, plus an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, turn things into a 3-and-26 third-down attempt.

SVSU attempts a 45-yard field goal, and it's blocked, giving the Javelinas the ball on their own 33-yard line.

TAMK has committed 10 penalties for 89 yards. 

SVSU has three penalties for 35 yards.

Final Quarter Underway For TAM-Kingsville And SVSU Football

Just 15 minutes left to play.

SVSU leads 41-10 and has the ball to start the fourth quarter against the Javelinas. 

SVSU Defense Forces Another Kingsville Fumble

The second consecutive Kingsville drive ends with a turnover.

This time, it's fumble by Fontenot on a rush up the middle.

SVSU's James McDonald recovers, and the Cardinals take over on the TAMK 42-yard line.

They get to run two plays before the third quarter ends.

It'll be second and 10 on the TAMK 42 when the fourth quarter gets underway.

Saginaw Valley State Football Strikes First In Second Half Against Kingsville

The third quarter has been uneventful for both offenses, but SVSU is able to break open the scoring with a shovel pass from Wolf to freshman tight end Drew Eisenbeis for a 6-yard score.

Lenderink adds the extra point for the Cardinals. 

It's a 14-play, 89-yard drive for SVSU after the interception, knocking almost seven minutes off the clock.

SVSU Football Offense Rolling, Extends Drive With Play-Action Success

A play-action pass on third and 7 sees Wolf connect with redshirt sophomore tight end Matt Vaughn for 23 yards, giving the Cardinals a fresh set of downs. 

The drive continues at the TAMK 43-yard line.

SVSU Football Ends Kingsville Threat With Red-Zone Interception

TAMK converts on fourth and 1 with a 3-yard scramble from redshirt sophomore running back Levi Fontenot, giving the Javelinas first and 10 on the SVSU 13.

Three plays later, Dawson is intercepted by redshirt junior defensive back Sean Hodges, ending the threat.

Saginaw Valley State takes over on its own 11-yard line with just over eight minutes left in the third quarter.

Kingsville Forces Fumble, Recovers 

While scrambling to avoid another sack on first and 10 on the TAMK 32, Wolf is attacked from behind and loses the ball.

Sophomore linebacker Ellis Sanusi is credited with the recovery, and the Javelinas take over with 12 minutes left in the quarter. 

The first Kingsville drive of the second half begins on the TAMK 37-yard line.

We're back in action.

With about a minute left in the first half, SVSU redshirt senior defensive lineman Adom LeDuc pressures Dawson and forces a fumble, which is recovered by freshman lineman Josh Williams. 

The Cardinals get one more chance with the ball. They have the ball at their own 43-yard line with 46 seconds left on the clock.

The Cardinals jump all over the opportunity after the missed field goal from Kingsville.

Wolf goes long again, this time connecting with Webber for a 79-yard touchdown pass.

Hurry-up offense nearly pays dividends for Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The Javelinas move quickly from their own 45-yard line, but the drive stalls just as quickly.

Unfortunately, the drive ends with a missed 38-yard field goal attempt that bounces off the right upright.

A first-and-10 pass attempt from Dawson is overthrown and intercepted by SVSU's Christian Ellison. 

With some insane blocking, he is able to return the pick 66 yards for a touchdown.

The second quarter started with SVSU on the Kingsville 33-yard line.

The Cardinals quickly find the end zone after a 20-yard pass from Wolf to Braden Hill puts them in the red zone.

Two plays later, on seconds and 12, Wolf connects with Hill for another 20-yard strike.

SVSU forced a Kingsville punt and had just over a minute to score before the first quarter ended, but the Cardinals couldn't finish the job.

Kingsville Capitalizes On INT, Leads SVSU 10-6

A successful Kingsville drive ends with a Nate Barnett touchdown in the corner.

It was a 2-yard toss from Dawson and concluded with a declined pass interference call.

Gauna adds the extra point.

The drive was nine plays for 33 yards and burned nearly three minutes off the first-quarter clock.
