Division II college football within the GLIAC took off with an opening contest between the Michigan Tech Huskies and non-conference opponent the Bemidji State Beavers on Thursday, and the Huskies proved themselves as a conference championship contender.
Michigan Tech came away with a 37-17 win over Bemidji State, leaving the Beavers scoreless in the second half while accumulating 21 points themselves to seal the victory.

The Beavers initially took a one-point 17-16 lead into halftime thanks to two scores by starting quarterback Connor Carver, but Huskies starting quarterback Alex Bueno found rhythm within the offense and capitalized on it. Running back Nic Nora secured two touchdowns, while running back Jake Rueff, wide receiver Ethan Champney, and Bueno each had one.

Although the Huskies didn't start off on the right foot, they made quite the comeback in the second half, leaving Bemidji State scoreless. Alex Bueno showed off that he has both agility in his running and accuracy in his passing to help Michigan Tech score 21 points in the second half.
Bemidji State made a promising effort in the first half and have a solid starter with Connor Carver, who contributed two rushing touchdowns, but collapsed as Michigan Tech found ways to penetrate the defense.
Michigan Tech absolutely looks like a team that should not be counted out of contention for the GLIAC championship with this strong start to the 2025 season.
