The Winona State Warriors' softball team outscored their opponents 13-2 on Monday en-route to two victories. WSU defeated Truman state 5-1 in the opener and closed out the day with an 8-1 win over University of Missouri-St. Louis.

With the wins the Warriors now move to 8-5 on the year.

In the opener, Alison Nowak got the Warriors off and running with a homerun to left field to give WSU a 1-0 lead after one.

Brianna Luciano hit an RBI double to score Madison Meduna in the second to double the Warriors' lead.

WSU doubled their lead again in the fifth off a Gabby Gedville run off a wild pitch and an Ann Smolenski RBI single.

After Truman got a run back in the top of the sixth, Rylee Stout extended the Warrior lead back to four with her sixth homer of the year.

Jordyn Kelman (4-3) was in All-American form on the mound, allowing just three hits while striking out 13 over seven innings of work.

Alison Nowak went 1-for-2 in the game with two walks, a run scored and an RBI.

The second game saw another great pitching performance. Liz Pautz (4-2) allowed just two hits and struck out 11 to lead the Warriors to the 8-1 victory.

The Warriors managed to plate three runs in the first, thanks to two bases-loaded walks from the UMSL pitcher. Ann Smolenski hit an RBI single to score the other run.

Winona State extended their lead to 4-0 in the third off a Marissa Mullen blast to center field.

Leading 4-1 heading into the sixth, the Warriors left nothing to chance. Alexis Kelsey hit an RBI single to score Brianna Luciano to make it 5-1. Next up to bat was Libby Neveau, who hit a three-run homer to center field to give the Warriors a seven-run advantage.

The Warriors forced the Tritons into some tough pitching situations, as they were walked a season-high nine times in the tilt.

The Warriors have another doubleheader tomorrow as they take on Indiana (PA) at 1:45 p.m. and #24 Southern Indiana at 4 p.m.
