West Texas A&M and Angelo State will meet in week 3 of the college football season with the two teams sitting in a similar position. They were picked to finish in the top four of the LSC preseason poll, but losses from both schools have left them in a must-win position to keep their seasons alive.
West Texas A&M scored 45 points against the Rams last season. Through two weeks in 2026, they’ve combined for just 35 points. Quarterback Braeden Fuller led a high-powered ASU offense in 2025, but in 2026, putting points on the board has been a more difficult task.
It’s not the exact kind of matchup fans of these two programs anticipated at the start of the season, but somehow, it makes the game even more crucial to their seasons.

Someone’s 0 Must Go … But Not In The Way You’d Think
Both Angelo State and West Texas A&M enter their rivalry in a desperate position in need of a win.
The Rams and Buffaloes are both 0-2, and a week 3 loss could effectively put an end to either one of their seasons.
Neither of these team’s paths have been easy. West Texas A&M started the season with two top 10 ranked opponents, while Angelo State has faced two solid programs to start the season in Western Colorado and Fort Hays State.
A win in open conference play puts the winner right back in position to contend in the LSC and finish in the upper quadrant of the conference.
The loser? Well, goodnight, Irene.
Both Running Backs Need A Statement Performance
Contae Carson Jr. for West Texas A&M and Cameron Dischler for Angelo State were both named the preseason LSC “Players to Watch.” Through two weeks, however, neither player has gotten off to the start that fans expected.
Dischler has scored three touchdowns through two games, but has only managed 44 yards on 22 carries. Good for 1.9 yards per carry.
Carson was expected to have a breakout season for the Buffaloes and be the driving force behind their offense, but the senior has been relatively quiet through two games. He’s run for 66 yards and no touchdowns through two games.
Whichever running back can have a breakout performance could lead their team to a win in the West Texas Showdown.
The Winner Of The Game Breaks A Head-To-Head Tie
Since 1997, these two programs are dead even against each other at 15-15.
It’s been a series defined by streaks. From 2006-2014, West Texas A&M won nine consecutive games against their rival, while Angelo State has won eight of the last 12 and three of the last four games.
