NHL Affiliate Map: What Tampa Bay Lightning Fans Need To Know

The Tampa Bay Lightning aren't changing a development system that has worked for years.

The Syracuse Crunch return as Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate, while the Orlando Solar Bears remain the organization's ECHL affiliate. Both partnerships were extended this offseason, keeping the Lightning's minor-league system intact for 2026-27.

Here's what Lightning fans should know about Tampa Bay's AHL and ECHL affiliates entering 2026-27.

Who Are The Tampa Bay Lightning's AHL And ECHL Affiliates?

The Syracuse Crunch are Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate, while the Orlando Solar Bears serve as the organization's ECHL affiliate.

Syracuse and Tampa Bay have been affiliated since the 2012-13 season. The organizations agreed to a four-year extension in July that keeps the partnership together through 2029-30.

Orlando has been affiliated with Tampa Bay since 2018-19 and signed a two-year extension this summer.

Why Lightning Fans Should Watch The Syracuse Crunch

Syracuse has become a proven stop on the road to Tampa Bay.

Since the affiliation began, 104 players have appeared for both the Crunch and Lightning. Syracuse also has reached two Calder Cup Finals and qualified for the postseason in 10 of 12 seasons in which the playoffs were held during the partnership.

The Crunch begin their 72-game season Oct. 2 at the Laval Rocket before hosting the Belleville Senators for their home opener Oct. 10.

Tampa Bay Lightning Prospects To Watch With Syracuse

  • Sam O'Reilly: O'Reilly turns pro after winning two Memorial Cups and earning tournament MVP honors last season. The 20-year-old recorded 28 points in 18 OHL playoff games with Kitchener and will compete for an NHL roster spot. If he doesn't make Tampa Bay immediately, Syracuse provides another option for his first professional season.

  • Ethan Gauthier: Gauthier recorded 27 points in 56 games with Syracuse last season, including 18 points over his final 25 games. Tampa Bay hopes the 21-year-old can take on a second-line role with the Crunch this season and develop into an NHL call-up option.

  • Dylan Duke: Duke led Syracuse with 32 goals and finished with 59 points in 72 games last season. He also made his NHL debut and will get an opportunity to compete for a Lightning roster spot during training camp.

  • Maxim Groshev: The 24-year-old forward remains part of Tampa Bay's organization after spending the past three seasons with Syracuse. Groshev gives the Crunch another player with significant AHL experience as the Lightning continue evaluating his NHL potential.

Who Are The Orlando Solar Bears?

The Orlando Solar Bears enter their ninth season as Tampa Bay's ECHL affiliate.

The partnership gives the Lightning another professional destination for developing players and comes with the advantage of having the NHL and ECHL clubs located in the same state.

There also is plenty of evidence that the connection works. Since the affiliation began, 46 players have appeared for both Orlando and Syracuse.

The Solar Bears say they have received 25 players under Lightning NHL contracts and another 11 under Syracuse AHL contracts during the partnership.

What To Know About The Orlando Solar Bears In 2026-27

Head coach and general manager Matt Macdonald returns to lead Orlando into another season in Tampa Bay's development system.

The Solar Bears also bring back captain Tyler Bird for his eighth season with the franchise, while all-time leading scorer Aaron Luchuk returns for another year.

Orlando opens its 15th ECHL season Oct. 17 on the road against the Florida Everblades before hosting Florida the following day.

How The Tampa Bay Lightning's Affiliate System Fits Together

Orlando provides developing professionals with opportunities in the ECHL, while Syracuse represents the final minor-league step before Tampa Bay.

The Lightning's decision to extend both affiliations this offseason shows the organization isn't looking to overhaul that structure.

With prospects such as O'Reilly, Gauthier and Duke approaching NHL opportunities, both affiliates give Lightning fans another place to watch for Tampa Bay's next contributors.
