The No. 1 seed in the -99kg division defeated former teammate Nico Maglicic via cloverleaf submission at the 5:26 mark of regulation to advance to the quarterfinals.
Duarte Moves Into The Quarterfinals
Duarte entered the tournament as the top seed in the division and wasted little time demonstrating why he is considered one of the favorites.
His opening-round matchup against Maglicic ended with one of the first submissions of championship weekend, sending Duarte through to the next stage of the bracket.
