Vannes opened its season with a 29-20 loss at Castres, but the final stretch offered some encouragement. Vannes trailed 29-6 before Benjamin Stevenson and Millenium Sanerivi scored tries in the final 20 minutes to cut into the deficit. Montpellier also enters Round 2 searching for its first victory after falling 27-19 to Section Paloise at home.

Both clubs made changes for their Round 2 matchup. Vannes keeps Michael Ruru and Maxime Lafage together at scrum-half and fly-half, while Anthony Bouthier starts at fullback.
Montpellier turns to Adam Hastings at fly-half, with Viliami Vunipola starting at No. 8 and Tom Banks at fullback. Stuart Hogg is among the Montpellier replacements.
