Western Colorado opened its 2026 season with a 52-21 win over West Texas A&M, turning a 24-0 halftime lead into a blowout win. 

The Mountaineers piled up 500 yards as Josiah Roy finished 9-of-11 for 268 yards and four touchdowns, while DJ Allen Jr. led WCU with 116 receiving yards and a touchdown.

West Texas A&M was unable to keep up and at one point was down 52-7 before adding a respectable two touchdowns. WT football will head to Grand Valley State next week, taking one one of the powerhouses of D2 football at Lubbers Stadium.

    Western Colorado Open 2026 With Road Win

    The Mountaineers headed to Canyon, Texas, and walk away with a win after dropping 52 points on the West Texas A&M Buffaloes at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium. WCU quarterback Josiah Roy went 9-11, passing for 268 yards and four touchdowns. 

    On the WT side, quarterback Knox Porter threw for 335 yards, two touchdowns and rushed for 33 yards. 

    West Texas A&M will take on GVSU next week at Lubbers Stadium.
