The 2026-27 AHL season will be here before you know it. Actually, it will be here earlier than it’s been since 2009 as the new campaign will kick off on Oct. 2. There will be 30 games played over the league’s opening weekend with a number of notable contests.

Most notably, perhaps, will be the AHL debut of the Hamilton Hammers, affiliate of the New York Islanders. Their first game will be played on the road, going head-to-head against sure-to-be new regional rivals Belleville Senators.

The Toronto Marlies will celebrate their Calder Cup championship with a banner raising on Oct. 3 during which they’ll host Hamilton.

Another date to mark on the calendar will be Nov. 7, which is the official 90th anniversary of the first games in AHL history. All 32 teams in the AHL will be playing games over the course of the day, highlighted by a matchup between the two oldest markets in the AHL with the Hershey Bears traveling to take on the Springfield Thunderbirds.

On top of the continued celebration of 90 years of the AHL, many teams will be celebrating milestone seasons as members of the AHL. The Providence Bruins will mark their 35th season, while the Hartford Wolf Pack will celebrate 30 years and the Milwaukee Admirals will enter their 25th season in the league. The Cleveland Monsters and Rockford Ice Hogs will be entering their 20th seasons, while the Belleville Senators, Laval Rocket and Springfield Thunderbirds will mark a decade in the league.

The league will hold its All-Star Classic festivities Feb. 7-8 in Cleveland.

Many teams marked their season schedules with creative reveals including the San Jose Barracuda.
