On July 18, Josh Kerr will attempt to break the standing Mile World Record of 3:43.13, set by Hicham El Guerrouj in 1999. The attempt has been labeled Project 222, which would translate to 222 seconds and thus a 3:42 mile.
Ahead of the race - Brooks has released imagery and details of the gear that will power Kerr's run.

The Spike Under The Attempt
The attempt will feature a custom Hyperion spike (pictured below) with a dramatic rocker, custom fit titanium pins, custom TPU and a custom upper sculpted to fit Josh Kerr's foot-shape.
Brooks used biomechanic research from its Run Research Lab and Finite Element Analysis data (FEA) to develop a personalized product optimized to Kerr and running at Mile WR pace.
The featured rocker is designed to handle a world record attempt, with what has been labeled as an "ultra-aggressive" ride. The rocker is designed to keep Kerr in optimal form. It wraps his foot to account for strength and velocity.
The shoe also features permanent titanium pins, unreleased to the the mass market. The TPU foam and upper are designed to support his stride in turns, minimize heel cushioning and provide maximum stiffness as preferred by Kerr.
Stylistically, the shoes include the moniker "The Pursuit" on the sock-liner and "Hyperion 222" branding on the tounge.
The Speed Suit
The speed suit (shown below) has laser cut perforations for breathability, minimal seams and "moisture-wicking panels". The fabric on the back and sides are intended to deliver 'targeted' ventilation.
It is designed for July heat and to provide both aerodynamics and breathability.
The laser cut perforations are designed to release heat and humidity while also enhancing mobility in the lower half. The suit features a streamlined, sleeveless high-neck silhouette and minimal seams.
The design also features personal preferences for Josh Kerr, including the familiar feel of chosen fabrics and the simplicity of a traditional front zipper.
