Paris Diamond League to Go Ahead in Adapted Format Amid Heatwave

The Meeting de Paris, scheduled for Sunday, June 28 at Stade Charléty, will go ahead in an adapted format as France continues to deal with the unprecedented heatwave gripping the country. France has been in red heat alert since June 22. Paris itself hit 40.9C (105.6F) on Wednesday - a city record for the month of June.

While some reports had suggested the meeting had been cancelled, the French Athletics Federation clarified that this is not the case. The eighth stop on the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season will take place, now just with more measures in place to protect the athletes, officials and spectators from the heat.

The disruption has been widespread. Eiffel Tower hours were cut. The Louvre restricted entry. Trains and concerts have been cancelled nationally. So what changes for Sunday?

Following agreement with French authorities, the day's competition at Charléty has been restructured. Only the professional Diamond League programme will be held. All club, regional and licensed-member competitions have been cancelled.

Other measures include: stadium gates will now open at 4:15pm local time (later than originally planned), medical and emergency response services have been reinforced, drinking water stations, misting stations and shaded areas have been added across the venue.

The situation continues to be monitored closely.
