Adaejah Hodge arrived at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as one of the fastest sprinters in collegiate history. She left Eugene as one of the fastest women in world history.

The Georgia freshman delivered a stunning performance Saturday night, winning the NCAA women's 200-meter title in a world-leading 21.68 despite running into a headwind. The mark shattered the collegiate record while also setting a meet record and championship record. 

Even more remarkably, it elevated Hodge into rare company on the all-time world list. Her 21.68 ties Melissa Jefferson-Wooden as the eighth-fastest performance ever recorded by a woman over 200 meters.

Adaejah Hodge Already Top Sha'Carri Richardson This Week

The race capped an unforgettable championship week for Hodge. Earlier in the meet, she broke Sha'Carri Richardson's NCAA 100-meter record with a 10.63 in the prelims before finishing second in the final. Rather than dwelling on that disappointment, Hodge responded with the signature performance of the championships, dominating the 200-meter final and producing a time that transcended collegiate track and field.

LSU's Shawnti Jackson finished second in a personal-best 22.12, while Texas A&M's Camryn Dickson placed third in 22.18. Florida's Gabrielle Matthews was fourth in 22.29 and Howard's Yahnari Lyons ran a personal-best 22.31 for fifth. Dajaz Defrand of USC, Alexis Brown of South Carolina and Tiriah Kelley of Baylor rounded out the top eight.

At just a freshman, Hodge is already an NCAA champion, collegiate record holder and now one of the 10 fastest women ever to run the event. What happened Saturday night was bigger than an NCAA title. It was a performance that placed her firmly in track and field history.
