Ja'Kobe Tharp SHATTERS 110mH WORLD RECORD With Historic 12.75 At NCAA Outdoors Prelims2:53

The 2026 NCAA Men’s Track & Field Championships have already delivered high drama and elite performances, but few moments have stood out like Ja’Kobe Tharp’s electrifying showing in the 110m hurdles on June 10.

Ja’Kobe Tharp didn’t just have a standout performance at the NCAA Championships. He broke the world record in the 110-meter hurdles.

The Auburn hurdler ran 12.75 seconds in the semifinals, beating the previous world record of 12.80 set by Aries Merritt. That’s not an NCAA record or a meet record. That’s the fastest anyone has ever run the event in history.

Below you can find the schedule for the 2026 NCAA Track and Field Championships, including the 110m Hurdle that Tharp will be competing in on Friday June 12th, 2026.

Tharp said his approach throughout the meet stayed simple and internal, focused on execution rather than outside attention.

“I’m always only focused on me,” he told FloTrack. He also made it clear he wanted to set the tone early in the competition, saying, “First round, I wanted to send a message: I’m here.”

After the record run, Tharp acknowledged both his confidence and how unexpected the performance felt even to him.

From that point on, the focus of the championship shifted. It was no longer about whether he could win, but about the fact that he had already done something no one had ever done before.
