Super Rugby Pacific enters its biggest weekend of the season with four New Zealand heavyweights still chasing the title.
The Chiefs, Crusaders, Hurricanes and Blues have reached the semifinals, setting up a final-four weekend loaded with history, pressure and All Blacks implications. The Chiefs host the Crusaders at FMG Stadium Waikato, while the Hurricanes face the Blues at Hnry Stadium.

The stakes go beyond a place in the Super Rugby Pacific final. This is also one of the final opportunities for players to impress national selectors before the Rugby Championship, giving both semifinals an added layer of urgency.
The Chiefs have looked like the competition’s most complete team, winning nine of their last 10 matches and scoring more than 45 points in each of their last two games. But the Crusaders remain the standard for postseason rugby, having won their last seven semifinals and their last five finals matches against the Chiefs.
Are The Chiefs Finally Ready?
The Chiefs have spent much of the season looking like title favorites.
Their attack is rolling, their forward pack has been strong at the lineout and they have the advantage of playing at home. The Chiefs have also won their last three Super Rugby Pacific semifinals, giving them a chance to make more history this weekend.
Kyren Taumoefolau has been one of their most dangerous attacking weapons, directly contributing to six tries across his last four matches. If the Chiefs are going to end the Crusaders’ postseason grip, he could be central to it.
Can The Crusaders Do It Again?
The Crusaders arrive with championship pedigree that no other team in the field can match.
They have won their last three matches against the Chiefs, including a 43-33 win at FMG Stadium Waikato earlier this season. They also have dominated the Chiefs in finals rugby, winning their last five postseason meetings by an average of 9.4 points.
Still, there are concerns. The Crusaders have lost their last three matches outside Christchurch, and discipline could be an issue after receiving 12 cards this season, the most in the competition.
Hurricanes Have A Major Opportunity
The Hurricanes enter their semifinal against the Blues with momentum and home-field confidence.
They have won their last nine matches at Hnry Stadium by an average margin of 28.3 points and have beaten the Blues in their last two meetings, each by exactly 23 points.
Their attack has been one of the best in the competition. The Hurricanes lead Super Rugby Pacific in attacking 22-meter entries and tackle breaks per game, giving them the tools to punish a Blues defense that has struggled late in the season.
Blues Look To Revive Their Title Push
The Blues are trying to stop a concerning slide at the worst possible time.
They have lost their last four matches and conceded at least 47 points in each of their last three defeats. That kind of defensive form is hard to carry into a semifinal, especially against a Hurricanes team that has been dominant at home.
But the Blues still have talent, physicality and recent championship experience. Sam Darry’s work rate at attacking rucks has been unmatched this season, while Codemeru Vai has been one of the competition’s most explosive ball carriers.
Bigger Story For Super Rugby Pacific
Another all-New Zealand final would reinforce the dominance of New Zealand teams in Super Rugby Pacific, but it also raises bigger questions for the competition.
The Chiefs, Crusaders, Hurricanes and Blues all have legitimate title cases. That makes this semifinal weekend one of the most competitive and important of the season.
For players chasing trophies, All Blacks jerseys or both, there may not be a bigger stage left before the Rugby Championship.
