- Brooks PR Invitational 2026: Event-By-Event Recap and Results
The high school season comes to an end at the Brooks PR Invitational with a world record, while high schoolers Cooper Lutkenhaus and Tate Taylor make waves on the pro stage. It's still really early in the 2026 outdoor season, but the standards keep being raised, as world leads continuously getting broken - this weekend, by Trey Cunningham and Audrey Werro.
Here are the five biggest stories from the weekend.
5. Trey Cunningham Runs World Lead 110mH in Sub-13 Fashion
The season JUST started for Trey Cunningham, and he is already making a big impact.
In his 2026 outdoor season opener, Cunningham became the first person of the season to break 13 seconds in the 110mH.
At the Rome Diamond League, he soared to a 0.4-second win, running 12.98 to second place's 13.31.
He leads the World against some of the best hurdlers, including collegians, Ja'Kobe Tharp, and Kendrick Smallwood, and professionals, Jamal Britt, and Cordell Tinch.
Jamal Britt has gone undefeated so far this season, but Cunningham is just getting his season started. An interesting matchup will soon be in store later this season in the 110m hurdles.
4. 13-year-old World Record Mile
At only 13 years old, Angie Alder emphasized "trackflation" at the 2026 Brooks PR Invitational.
Two months ago, Angie Alder broke the 12-year-old age group mile world record after running 4:40.98 at the 2026 ASICS Carolina Distance Carnival. She came within a second of breaking Sadie Englehart's middle school record, but wound up with a world record instead.
She then turned 13 and left that world record in the dust, with eyes on another chance at breaking the national record at Brooks PR.
Alder led the race from the start, making a move with 400m to go to gap the rest of the field. Both the national and world records were hers after crossing the line in 4:38.25. Only in seventh grade, she led fourteen other runners to a sub-5-minute finish.
3. Cooper Lutkenhaus Wins 800m In Diamond League Debut
Cooper Lutkenhaus continues to prove that age is just a number.
The youngest World Champion in athletics history has not yet graduated high school, but he has represented Team USA on the world stage twice. This weekend, he added another accolade to his collection, making his Diamond League debut.
All eyes were on Lutkenhaus at the Stockholm meeting, where he raced a world-class field of half milers. At only 17 years old, he has proven himself as one of the best 800m runners in history after going undefeated for the entirety of 2026. But would it stand on the Diamond League stage?
The Diamond League rookie stuck behind Olympic Medalist, Marco Arop, for the majority of the race, overtaking him in the last 50m. The final kick took the teen to a win in 1:42.70, in a blistering 800m opener. Arop placed second with 1:43.11.
In his Diamond League debut, Lutkenhaus's undefeated streak stays intact, and he earns his first win of the series.
Lutkenhaus will race another 800m at the Oslo, Norway leg of the series on June 10, with an almost identical field.
3. Tate Taylor Re-Sets 200m HS Record
This is not Tate Taylor's first time on the Weekend Recovery, and we all know he is the king of the 200m.
This weekend, at the 2026 USATF Lone Star Grand Prix, he did something extraordinary for himself, for high schoolers, and for the world.
With almost no wind, he pushed to a second-place finish against professional athletes in a blistering time of 19.97 (+0.1 m/s). This was a 0.08-second PR for himself, which also means he bested his own HS National Record. He became the first high school athlete to ever break 20 seconds in the event, while also placing himself 13th in the World for the 2026 season.
His high school career is over, but it's just the beginning for Taylor.
1. Audrey Werro Runs World #3 All-Time 800m
Stockholm Diamond League was a series of upsets.
The women's 800m not only served as one of the biggest upsets of the weekend, but also fostered a world-class time.
One of the top storylines heading into the Stockholm meeting was Keely Hodgkinson making her 800m season debut. After an indoor world record, Keely was "the one to beat" and a clear favorite going into the meet.
With all eyes on Hodgkinson, Audrey Werro was not flying under the radar so easily. Indoors, she placed second at the World Championships to Hodgkinson, and since then has been on a tear.
She opened her outdoor season at the Rabat Diamond League, where she ran 1:56.56 to set a Meeting Record. In Stockholm, she ran with confidence, leading most of the race, responding perfectly to Hodgkinson's surge in the final 100m. When Hodgkinson went, Werro went with her, taking back her lead to take the final win.
Most thought Hodgkinson would be unchallenged this season, but Werro is ready to give her a run for her money any chance she can.
