Diamond League Rome featured marquee performances, new national records and world leaders and the return of major track and field superstars.

Noah Lyles won the men’s 100m in convincing fashion, running a 9.88 and surpassing his previous 9.95 mark in Tokyo. 

Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage opened today’s action with a dominant performance in men’s javelin. He was the only athlete in the event to surpass 90 meters, throwing a 92.62 and extending his world lead.

Standout performances from Trey Cunningham in the men’s 100m hurdles and Emma Zapletalová in the women’s 400m hurdles capped off an impressive day for many stars on the biggest stage of the early Diamond League season.

Noah Lyles Wins Rome Diamond League 100m In Dominating Fashion

Noah Lyles delivered in the marquee event of the evening, winning the men's 100m with a 9.88. The Olympic champion secured a victory and defeated a field that included Jordan Anthony, Ferdinand Omanyala and Letsile Tebogo.

Emmanuel Eseme finished second in a national-record 9.94 for Cameroon, while Letsile Tebogo claimed third in a season-best 9.95. The race lived up to the billing with five athletes under 10 seconds. 

Lyles entered Rome looking to continue building momentum toward the championship season and did exactly that.

The men's 100m closes Diamond League Rome with one of the most anticipated races of the season. Olympic champion Noah Lyles faces Italy's Marcell Jacobs for the first time this year, while Ferdinand Omanyala, Akani Simbine and Letsile Tebogo add further star power.

Matteo Sioli Clears Season Best To Win Men’s High Jump In Rome

Matteo Sioli delivered a breakthrough performance, winning the men's high jump with a season-best clearance of 2.28 meters. He was the only athlete to clear 2.28 and successfully navigated a competition that saw several jumpers remain in contention through.

Erick Portillo finished second at 2.23, while Romaine Beckford claimed third on countback at the same height. Pre-meet favorite JuVaughn Harrison struggled throughout the competition and exited at 2.16.

Klaudia Kazimierska finished second in a season-best 3:59.24, just ahead of Nikki Hiltz, who crossed third in 3:59.26. The race produced four athletes under four minutes.

Hunter Bell entered Rome as one of the favorites after her world indoor title and delivered another statement performance.

The men's long jump has taken a dramatic turn in Rome, with Jorge A. Hodelín moving to the top of the standings with a season-best 8.18 meters. He's produced the leading mark in the third round and now holds a narrow advantage over the field.

Julien Alfred lived up to her billing as the world leader, winning the women's 200m in Rome in 21.93. The Olympic champion controlled the race and secured a  victory in one of the most anticipated sprint matchups of 2026 Rome Diamond League.

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden finished second in 22.17, while Anavia Battle claimed third in 22.39. Amy Hunt finished fourth in 22.52, while veteran Dina Asher-Smith crossed fifth in a season-best 22.76.

Alfred entered Rome with the fastest time in the world this season and added another Diamond League victory to her growing resume.

Lurdes Gloria Manuel finished second in a personal-best 49.77, while Nickisha Pryce claimed third in 49.80. Aaliyah Butler was close behind in 49.83, meaning just 0.23 seconds separated the top four finishers. Keely Hodgkinson, who stepped down from her signature 800m and ran a 51.14.

Kendra Harrison finished second in 12.54, while Nadine Visser claimed third in 12.58. Just nine hundredths of a second separated the top four finishers.

Emma Zapletalová Runs World Lead To Win Rome Diamond League

Emma Zapletalová backed up her breakthrough performance in Rabat with another statement victory, winning the women's 400m hurdles in a world-leading 52.58. She improved upon the 52.82 she ran just days ago and became the first woman under 52.60 this season.

Anna Cockrell finished second in a season-best 52.77, while Rushell Clayton claimed third in 53.14. Former world champion Dalilah Muhammad continued her strong comeback season with a fourth-place finish in 53.39, giving the race four athletes under 53.40.

Zapletalová entered Rome as the world leader and left with an even faster mark.

Andy Díaz Hernández Wins Triple Jump In Front Of Home Crowd

Andy Díaz Hernández gave the Italian fans another reason to celebrate in Rome, winning the men's triple jump with a season-best 17.59 meters. The reigning European champion produced the winning mark in the fifth round and remained comfortably ahead of the field.

World leader Jordan Scott finished second at 17.33, while Jamaica's Jaydon Hibbert claimed third with a season-best 17.02. Díaz Hernández entered the meet with the best personal best in the field and delivered under pressure, becoming the only athlete beyond 17.50 meters.

Molly Caudery claimed her first Diamond League victory of the 2026 season, winning the women’s pole vault in Rome with a season-best clearance of 4.80 meters. The British vaulter separated herself from a tightly contested competition that remained crowded through 4.80.

Nina Kennedy and Angelica Moser shared second after both cleared 4.80 meters, while Tina Šutej finished fourth at 4.70.The win gives Caudery valuable Diamond League points after finishing outside the podium in Rabat.

Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage continued his breakout 2026 season with the biggest throw of his career, winning the men's javelin in Rome with a national-record 92.62 meters, becoming the only athlete beyond 90 meters on the day.

Anderson Peters finished second at 83.91, while Curtis Thompson claimed third with 83.89 in a tightly contested battle for the podium. Keshorn Walcott and Thomas Röhler rounded out the top five.

Rome offers an immediate opportunity to reassert himself before the Diamond League heads to Stockholm.
