Stony Brook enters the 2026 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship as one of the hottest teams in the country. The No. 5-seeded Seawolves will host opening weekend action on Long Island after capturing their fourth consecutive CAA title and extending the nation’s longest winning streak.

1. Stony Brook Is Riding The Nation’s Longest Winning Streak

The Seawolves enter the NCAA Tournament on a 13-game winning streak and own a 17-2 overall record. Head coach Joe Spallina’s squad has not lost since early March and has dominated both conference and national competition down the stretch.

Stony Brook also holds the third-best winning percentage in the nation (.895) and has proven itself against elite competition with a 9-2 mark against Top 40 RPI teams.

Among those marquee wins are victories over NCAA Tournament teams Colorado, Denver, Princeton, Rutgers and UAlbany.

2. The Seawolves Are Chasing More History

By defeating Towson 18-7 in the CAA Championship game, Stony Brook became just the second program in conference history to win four consecutive women’s lacrosse titles.

The Seawolves are now headed to the NCAA Tournament for the 13th time under Spallina, continuing one of the sport’s most consistent runs of excellence.

Stony Brook will host both the first and second rounds at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, beginning with a first-round matchup against Stonehill on Friday at 1 p.m. ET.

3. Isabella Caporuscio Has Been One Of The Nation’s Most Complete Players

CAA Midfielder of the Year Isabella Caporuscio has emerged as one of the country’s premier two-way stars.

The junior enters NCAA Tournament play with 60 goals this season — ranking 14th nationally — while also averaging 2.53 caused turnovers per game, good for 12th in Division I.

Caporuscio was dominant during the CAA Tournament, piling up 10 goals, one assist, five caused turnovers, seven ground balls and seven draw controls across two games.

She is also one of only two players nationally with at least 60 goals and 2.5 caused turnovers per game this season.

4. Freshman Mirabella Altebrando Has Been An Elite Playmaker

CAA Rookie of the Year Mirabella Altebrando has quickly become one of the top distributors in college lacrosse.

The freshman has recorded 55 assists through 19 games, ranking seventh nationally and second among all freshmen in Division I.

Her chemistry within Stony Brook’s offense has helped fuel one of the nation’s most balanced attacks, giving the Seawolves another dangerous weapon heading into postseason play.

5. Defense Has Powered Stony Brook’s Championship Run

While the offense grabs headlines, the Seawolves have been equally dominant defensively.

Stony Brook ranks:

• Fifth nationally in caused turnovers per game (12.89)
• Fifth nationally in scoring margin (+7.32)
• Among the national leaders in goals allowed per game (7.53)

That defensive pressure has consistently created transition opportunities and helped the Seawolves overwhelm opponents throughout conference play.

Now, Stony Brook will look to carry that formula into another deep NCAA Tournament run as it opens postseason play against Stonehill on Friday.
