Stony Brook, Hofstra and Monmouth headline the 2026 CAA Women’s Lacrosse postseason awards, announced Wednesday ahead of the conference tournament.
Hofstra’s Nikki Mennella and Stony Brook’s Isabella Caporuscio repeated as CAA Attacker and Midfielder of the Year, respectively, while the Seawolves added two more major honors with Hailey Huebner (Defensive Player of the Year) and Mirabella Altebrando (Rookie of the Year). Monmouth’s Katie Sullivan earned Goalkeeper of the Year, and for the first time in league history, the Coach of the Year honor was shared by Hofstra’s Shannon Smith and Stony Brook’s Joe Spallina.
Caporuscio continued her dominance as one of the nation’s top two-way midfielders, securing the award for the second straight season and helping Stony Brook claim the honor for a fourth consecutive year. The junior produced multi-point performances in all 17 games, including 10 outings with at least three goals. She finished with 50 goals (second in the CAA) and 65 points (third), while anchoring the defensive end with 2.35 caused turnovers and 2.59 ground balls per game. Caporuscio is one of just two players nationally to record 50+ goals while averaging at least 2.0 caused turnovers per game.
Mennella remained one of the most dangerous attackers in the country, totaling 84 points and leading the conference with 59 goals — a mark that ranks among the top in Division I. The Smithtown, N.Y., native continues to climb Hofstra’s record books, now sitting top-15 all-time in both career goals (174) and points (254). She becomes the first Pride player in over a decade to repeat as a major award winner.

Huebner delivered one of the most dominant defensive seasons in CAA history, earning Defensive Player of the Year after collecting six weekly honors. The sophomore is averaging 3.47 caused turnovers per game and has forced 59 turnovers this season — among the top marks nationally and in conference history.
In goal, Sullivan anchored Monmouth’s defense with one of the top statistical seasons in the country. The junior ranks among the national leaders with 160 total saves and 9.41 saves per game, while her .482 save percentage places her inside the NCAA’s top 20.
Altebrando made an immediate impact in her freshman campaign, totaling 60 points on 16 goals and 44 assists. Her assist total ranks second in the CAA and among the nation’s best, while her overall production places her among the top freshmen in Division I.
Spallina captured his fourth consecutive Coach of the Year award after guiding Stony Brook to another undefeated conference season and its fourth straight regular-season title. The Seawolves continue to dominate the CAA landscape, boasting a perfect 36-0 record against conference opponents since joining in 2023.
Smith earns her second career Coach of the Year honor after leading Hofstra to a second-place finish despite being picked fifth in the preseason poll. The veteran head coach guided six players to All-CAA recognition, including multiple first- and second-team selections and a strong rookie class presence.
