Wisconsin beats North Dakota 2-1 in the Frozen Four semifinal to move on to the NCAA men's hockey national championship game.

Wisconsin Holds Off North Dakota In Frozen Four, Heads To NCAA Title Game

Wisconsin is headed to the NCAA hockey championship final after building a two-goal lead in the first period and holding off a late push from North Dakota in the Frozen Four semifinals.

The Badgers scored twice in 27 seconds in the opening frame, with Simon Tassy breaking through first and Ryan Botterill following soon after to give Wisconsin a 2-0 advantage. Those were the first two goals North Dakota had allowed in this NCAA tournament.

From there, Wisconsin did the rest with its defense and penalty kill, surviving multiple North Dakota power plays, including a 5-on-3 in the second period. Daniel Hauser carried a shutout deep into the third before Ellis Rickwood finally put North Dakota on the board with 51 seconds left after UND pulled Jan Spunar for the extra attacker.

That late goal gave North Dakota life, but not enough time. Wisconsin closed out a 2-1 win and advanced to the national championship game.

The Badgers scored two goals over the course of 27 seconds in the first period, and despite a late goal by Nodak, Wisconsin is headed to the NCAA hockey championship final. 

Notably, those goals were the first two against North Dakota in this tournament. 

Daniel Hauser pitched a shutout through nearly 59 minutes of this game until UND finally scored after pulling its goalie.

The NCAA Men’s Frozen Four is coming to Las Vegas for the first time in 2026. The event will be held at T-Mobile Arena, home of the Vegas Golden Knights, on April 9.
