The countdown to the 130th Penn Relays presented by America250 is officially underway.

From April 23-25, the historic Franklin Field will once again host one of the most iconic meets in track and field. Year after year, Penn delivers dramatic finishes, global rivalries, and record-breaking performances. As the sport continues to get faster, 2026 promises more of the same.

USA vs. Jamaica: The Sprint Showdown Continues

Few rivalries define Penn Relays like USA vs. Jamaica in the sprint events.

From the 4x100m to the 4x400m, and even in open events, the two nations consistently deliver some of the most intense matchups of the meet.

This year, Jamaica enters with serious momentum led by a 15-year-old phenom, Jason Pitter of Kingston College. 

In March of 2026, Pitter ran 45.76, shattering the Class 2 400m record at the 2026 Jamaica ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships.

Standing opposite him is Quincy Wilson of Bullis (MD), one of the most accomplished high school athletes in the U.S.

Wilson has made pivotal strides in his athletic career at this very meet. He made his debut at the 2023 meet, where he anchored the 4x400m in 45.06, helping his team close a massive gap and qualify for finals. In 2025, Bullis returned with championship aspirations but fell short to Kingston College in a race decided by 0.4 seconds.

During this 2026 indoor season, Wilson has already run 45.37 indoors to set a new HS National Record. Taking his speed to the big oval, Pitter and Wilson are in for a major showdown. 

Kingston College won four straight 4x400 titles, and with the help of Pitter, will place its sights on another wheel. Since 2019, Bullis has put in a good fight in the HS Boys 4x400, but has consistently fallen short of the Jamaican teams. 2025 marked a turning point for the team after a close finish and a new high school record (3:06.31), and out-leaned Jamaica's other dominant school, Calabar. 

Pitter is expected to compete at the Carifta Games, leading into Penn Relays, which will surely fuel the fires for Penn.

4xMile World Record Watch

Distance races at Penn Relays are known for their drama, and this year’s men’s 4xMile could be historic.

At the 2024 showing, Villanova set a Collegiate Record in 15:51.91, led by Liam Murphy's 3:54.32 1600m anchor leg. The Wildcat narrowly edged out the University of Virginia's Gary Martin, who finished second in 15:52.30. Murphy and Martin were notorious rivals in 2024, but 2026 offers new rivalries as we shift our focus from collegiate records to world records.

The World Record mark was set in 1985 by Team Ireland, having stood for over four decades. Counting as one of the longest records in track and field history, the record was set by familiar faces incldued Villanova legend Eamonn Coghlan and Marcus O'Sullivan. 

After graduating from Villanova, O'Sullivan turned to the coaching side of running and helped coach the 2024 team to a collegiate record.

While the entries have not yet been released, the confirmation of schools across the country gives us a glimpse into who this title might come down to.

Breaking the 4xmile world record with a college program would be an incredible feat to perform. In order to achieve the record, one must provide four talented milers who have the ability to run strategic races from anywhere in the field, while also running sub-3:57 averages per leg.

Villanova returns to Franklin Field with momentum after a strong indoor season, including multiple sub-four milers. Marco Langon will play a key part of record-setting squad as he continues to prove himself on the national stage with standout performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Traveling from 2,879 miles, the Oregon Ducks will be another name to make their presence known in Philadelphia.

In the 2025-26 Indoor season, the ducks showcased exceptional depth in the mile with multiple athletes running well under world-record pace. Elliot Cook (3:52.32) and Simeon Birnbaum (3:52.81) headline a group capable of challenging a win.

If conditions align, this could be one of the fastest 4xMile races ever run.

Penn State Leads Two Deep 4x800s

After a dominant indoor season, Penn State enters as one of the top teams to watch in the 4x800m.

Putting together a deep middle-distance team, Penn State sent four guys to the 2026 Indoor Champs, with three qualifying to the final. Only a couple of hours south of State College, Philadelphia will foster a fast combination of all of their efforts. 

They have five athletes under 1:48, giving them multiple lineup options, but regardless of which team is put together, the Nittony Lions will have a chance at a record. 

The Penn Relays record (7:11.17) was set by their ancestors in 1985, while the collegiate record was set a year prior by Arizona State in 7:08.96. 

While the World Record pace sits at 1:45.5 per 800m, Penn State has already shown flashes of that level indoors. 

The Oregon Ducks cannot be counted out of the race, depending on event entries.

Simeon Birnbaum rounds out the four fastest times from their indoor season in 1:48.05, directly aligning with Penn State's deep team.

On the women's side...

Penn State will also be represented heavily in the event with its strong lineup.

Haley Kitching will be at the forefront of the pack after a strong performance representing Australia at the World Indoor Championships. Failing to advance to the finals at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Kitching went into Poland hungry, ending with a fifth-place finish on the World stage.

She is supported by a strong group of women, including Boh Ritchie and Tayissa Buchanan, who have run 2:01.60 and 2:02.67, respectively. 

Gladys Chepngetich of Clemson and Makayla Paige of UNC are likely to repeat the matchup from the 2025 Penn Relays meeting. After receiving the baton within milliseconds of each other, Paige and Chengetich battled for the wheel, with Paige and UNC breaking the tape.

Both will return this year as National Champions, evening the playing field and heightening the stakes.

Entries will be announced mid-April, and we will report on who the races will really come down to.
