The North Dakota hockey team took on Quinnipiac Bobcats in a Saturday evening puck drop to determine who will move on to the 2026 Frozen Four in Las Vegas from the Sioux Falls region.

UND shutout the Bobcats 5-0 to punch their tickets.

Quinnipiac toppled the higher seeded Providence Friars 5-2 to earn their chance against the No. 2 seed.

UND handled Merrimack with a 3-0 shutout on Thursday with 31 saves by freshman Jan Spunar between the pipes and two opening period goals from Cody Croal. The two were both critical once again in the regional final.

Freshman Jan Spunar was just one of the standouts for UND, making more than 53 saves in the two Sioux Falls Regional games en route to the 2026 Frozen Four. Two shutouts.

Jack Kernan's contributions of two of the opening three goals helped the Fighting Hawks to an early lead and drained QU's energy.

Will Zellers had two assists.

North Dakota will play Wisconsin at T-Mobile Arena after they defeated Michigan State in overtime on Saturday.

UND goes on the power play after a flying elbow from Gilson came in.

Marinov made a nice save on Rickwood during the disadvantage.

UND Stays Strong Even On The Kill, Clearing Puck With Ease - 7:09 3rd

It'll be 4-on-4 after the 4-on-0 thanks to a Rickwood slashing call.

Quinnipiac gets a power play after 29 seconds of 4-on-4.

The Bobcats are still left searching as their frustrations continue even with the man-advantage.

UND has had no trouble clearing the puck down to the Slovak goaltender.

With half of the third period remaining, Spunar continues to be rock solid for NoDak between the pipes. Quinnipiac has managed more possession but the UND defense has kept them out of the center of the ice.

Borgula was sent to the box which brought out a review and was assessed a tripping call.

He sent Croal sprawling to the ice which brought out the whistle.

Their second opportunity on the advantage today.

Pelosi created a shorthanded opportunity but it was quickly grabbed by UND.

With a minute left, UND had a 4 on zero chance at the Marinov but after just one pass, he made the stop.

Third Period Starts, QU In Desperation Mode - 18:50 3rd

UND wan't able to convert on their first power play of the game. They spent most of the game moving the puck around the ice after a shorthanded chance came in from Cerbone which forced Spunar to make the save.

UND Extends Lead By 2 More In 2nd Period

With just a few seconds left in the period, Blace targeted Keaton Verhoeff and squished him into the boards before being sent into the box for boarding.

The play went under official review and was determined to be a minor penalty for boarding.

North Dakota will return in the third with a man-advantage for the onslaught to continue.

North Dakota pressed back after a few minutes of Quinnipiac stacking a few strong shifts.

Marinov got a few more saves after deliveries from Zellers, Wiebe, and Emery.

Detroit Red Wings prospect Dylan James had a nice shot to put NoDak up 4-0 over QU. Zellers, Rickwood on the assist.

It was a double-deflection off of two Quinnipiac defenders past the Slovak goaltender.

Quinnipiac's best opportunity brewed in the final minute of the period. Wyttenbach had a chance to get a shot off but Spunar was in position to make the stop.

After the whistle, matching penalties came out for roughing to bring out 4-on-4 play for just 35 seconds, the rest will open the second.

Just three shot attempts flew towards Marinov in the final seven minutes after QU made the goalie swap—a positive sign as Quinnipiac try to regain some sort of standing in this regional final game.

The big question—can Quinnipiac repeat the success that Wisconsin just found against Michigan State to keep their dreams alive?

The Fighting Hawks are in full stride as Kernan pots his second of the game. With speed moving from left to right, he brought out the wicked twister to beat Silverstein yet again and send NoDak up three.

North Dakota is 13-0 when scoring three goals in one period.

Matej Marinov (.899 SV%, 2.32 GAA)stepped in to replace Silverstein.

Oh yeah, and Wisconsin beat Michigan State in overtime.

Quinnipac Power Play Comes Up Short - 9:46 1st

Spunar had a nice stop on Borgula with a one-timer from the Ovechkin-spot as the power play ran out.

QU tries to figure out what to do after finding themselves with a two-goal deficit within just a few minutes of play.

North Dakota is all over Quinnipiac in the battles along the boards.

Croal netted a goal, his third in two games this NCAA tournament.

Zellers was called for a high-sticking immediately after the goal to send QU on their first power play of the game.

It was almost a solo effort after Jack Kernan stuffed Quinnipiac in their own end on the forecheck and received support to create the traffic necessary to beat Silverstein.
