Minnesota Duluth Hockey Battles Until The End, Defeats Penn State 3-1

The second day of the NCAA Tournament is complete. In an all out battle until the final horn, Minnesota Duluth holds on to defeat PSU, 3-1.

In the second day of the NCAA D1 Men's Hockey tournament all of the eyes were on the night-cap game between Penn State and Minnesota Duluth. 

It came down to the final minutes of regulation, but UMD held on and capitalized on strong play-making to break a lengthy scoring drought and secure 3-1 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions. 

The game got off to a slot start for the two teams as no shots were on target at the beginning and the ones that were, were shot down by excellent goalkeeping on both sides of the ice. 

Penn State took the only lead in the first period, scoring their only goal of the contest off the stick of Shea Van Olm. 

The Bulldogs of UMD would answer back minutes later as Max Plante found the net off the assist from his brother Sam Plante and Ty Hanson. Hanson also scored the final goal of the night for Duluth with an empty net. 

It would remain tied up at one with both teams putting their best on the ice until the five minute mark when Hunter Anderson, the freshman, would put UMD back on top. The Bulldogs would seal the victory with an open net goal. 

Adam Gajan had a stellar night in net for the Bulldogs with 29 saves in the full 60 minutes. 

On the Penn State side, Josh Flemming had 36 saves during his time in goal. 

Minnesota Duluth will move to take on Michigan on Mar. 29. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:30 PM CT/ 5:30 PM ET.

With just over five minutes left to go, a freshman for the Bulldogs comes up clutch in a key moment. 

After neither team had scored since the first period, Hunter Anderson gets the job done for Duluth and finds the back of the net with the unassisted goal.
