Two of Division III basketball’s most complete student-athletes are taking home one of the sport’s highest honors.

Washington and Lee standout Mary Schleusner and Emory guard Ben Pearce have been named the 2026 Jostens Trophy recipients, recognizing the top men’s and women’s players in NCAA Division III. The award honors excellence not only on the court, but also in the classroom and in the community — a reflection of the Division III model.

A Historic Career for Mary Schleusner

Schleusner caps off one of the most dominant careers in Division III history.

The senior forward led Washington and Lee throughout the season, averaging over 21 points and 16 rebounds per game while piling up double-doubles at a rate unmatched across all NCAA divisions.

Her impact goes far beyond a single season. Schleusner leaves the game as the all-time Division III leader in rebounds and double-doubles, cementing her legacy as one of the most productive players the level has ever seen.

A three-time ODAC Player of the Year and consistent force on both ends of the floor, she also stood out academically and in service — embodying the full criteria of the Jostens Trophy.

Ben Pearce Powers Emory’s Rise

On the men’s side, Pearce delivered a record-breaking senior campaign that propelled Emory back into the national spotlight.

The UAA Player of the Year averaged over 24 points per game while rewriting the Eagles’ record books, including becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer and surpassing 2,000 career points.

Pearce’s all-around production — scoring, playmaking, and leadership — helped guide Emory to another deep NCAA Tournament run, further solidifying his case as one of the top players in the country.

The Meaning Behind the Jostens Trophy Award

Presented annually by the Rotary Club of Salem, the Jostens Trophy is one of the most prestigious honors in Division III basketball. It evaluates student-athletes based on basketball ability, academic achievement, and community service, highlighting the well-rounded excellence that defines the level.

Schleusner and Pearce rose to the top of a competitive field of 22 national finalists, representing the best of what Division III athletics has to offer.
