Shelby Houlihan will attempt to make history at the 2026 running of The Ten. Houlihan will chase after the American 10k Record, which was set by Alicia Monson in 30:03.82 at the 2023 running of this same meet.

Houlihan's prowess over the 1500m and 5K distances is undeniable. She holds the American 1500m Record of 3:54.99, set in 2019, and has run 14:23.92 over the 5K distance (previously the American Record).
However, she has never run a 10,000m in a professional setting.
Houlihan opened the 2026 season with an 800m at altitude. She followed that with an 8:39.97, fifth place showing in the 3,000m at the JDL Sound Invite.
In 2025, she made her return to the sport after serving a doping ban and had a successful season which featured a National Championship Outdoor 5K Title and a fourth place 5K finish at the 2025 World Championships.
Her season best over the 5K distance was a 14:45 at the Rome Diamond League Meeting on June 6.
There will be some seasoned veterans joining Houlihan in the field. Recent USATF Half Marathon Champion, Jessica McClain will join in on the fun. She has a 30:59.7 10K personal best from last year's meet - but she may be primed to run something quicker.
Despite a snafu, she was recently credited with USATF Half Marathon Championship Gold. She finished eighth in the Marathon at the 2025 Tokyo World Championships and scored a fifth place finish in the 10k at the USATF Outdoor Championships.
