Fresh off of an Indoor World 3K Championship, it has been announced that Josh Kerr will race the mile at the London Diamond League Meeting (the Novuna London Athletics Meet) on Saturday, July 18.

Kerr won the 3K Indoor World Championship in a thriller over Cole Hocker last weekend. Over the mile distance, he ran 3:45.34 at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic. That time ranks him sixth on the world all-time list.

Kerr is the British 1500m record holder (3:27.79), and hold the world best over two miles indoors of 8:00.67.

In 2025, Kerr competed on the Grand Slam circuit before jumping to the London Diamond League and finishing second in the 1500m to young-gun Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech. He then secured a 5K National Title at the UK Championships in August.

Then in September, Kerr finished in a disappointing 14th in the 1500m at the World Outdoor Championships after suffering a right calf tear during the final. He has rebounded in a big way since.

“The Emsley Carr Mile has an incredible history and to have the opportunity to compete in that event in London is special,” said Kerr.

“I have some big goals this summer - it’s no secret that I want to compete for Scotland in the mile at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow too - and this fits my schedule perfectly. It’s a Diamond League race so I know it’ll be a strong field, but I’m not concerned about who will or won’t be there. I can only control my own performance so I want to go out there and run fast. I want to make it memorable.”

Kerr will certainly have lofty times to chase in London. The British Soil record is 3:45.96.
