Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse, Josh Kerr, and Geordie Beamish certainly delivered in their highly-anticipated World Indoors 3K matchup.

Josh Kerr Out-Maneuvers Cole Hocker To Win World Indoors 3K

Cole Hocker may be the Olympic champion. He may have the faster 1500m PB. He may even have the better kick. But on Saturday at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, 2023 World 1500m Champion Josh Kerr of Scotland timed his kick just right, was able to gap the field, and hung on to reclaim his World Indoor 3K title after winning the event in 2024.

Hocker, having likely seen the wreckage in the women's race, decided to take control of this field early on to prevent any slips.

About 1200m in, the Ethiopians Addisu Yihune and Getnet Wale tried to string things out as Yared Nuguse took 3rd with Hocker sitting behind in tow. Kerr, who was waiting towards the back of the race until now, moved up to 5th with 6 laps to go.

Wale and Yihune were struggling to keep their lead by 2800m, as it was clear the rest of the field was winding up their kicks.

Kerr made his winning move right at the bell, and his timing meant everything. Hocker was totally boxed out, but he found some space! He might have been surprised that he had to run around France's Yann Schrub, who ran incredibly impressively to hang on to a medal position. Hocker was barely able to out-lean Schrub, but the battle for the win was clear: Kerr is back on top.
