Christopher Morales Williams may not have the world record -- his 2024 mark was invalidated due to the type of starting blocks used. But what he does have is the 2026 World Athletics Championships title -- and to do it, he beat American Khaleb McRae.

For the first time, the race was held in a two-section timed final format mimicing the NCAA. Morales Williams was in the second heat.
Final 1: Tinega (KEN), Lima (BRA), Robinson (USA), Molnar (HUN)
The '23 NCAA 400 hurdles champion Chris Robinson was, behind McRae, America's only shot at a second medal -- and he was likely motivated by last year's race when Team USA did a historic 1-2-3 sweep in this event. Given the new two-section timed final format and that McRae and Morales-Williams are in Heat 2, Robinson was looking for a win here to secure a medal.
Robinson gets the lead at the break, and he holds off Molnar and Lima! We'll see if 45.55 is enough going into section 2.
1. Chris ROBINSON (USA), 45.55
2. Attila MOLNÁR (HUN), 45.71
3. Matheus LIMA (BRA), 46.17
4. Brian Onyari TINEGA (KEN), 46.62
Final 2: Horak (CZE), Richards (TTO), McRae (USA), Morales-Williams (CAN)
Khaleb McRae and Christopher Morales-Williams are united in that they've both set indoor 400m world records that, as of this race, are unratified -- in Morales-Williams' case due to the starting equipment used while McRae is still waiting on the process to complete. Keep an eye on the clock for 44.52 seconds, the fastest ever run on the indoor oval.
McRae takes the break, as Morales-Williams was quickly gapped. But don't count him out, Morales-Williams makes up the difference all in the final 50m to pass McRae and set a championship record! The top three in this heat all get medals.
1. Christopher MORALES WILLIAMS (CAN), 44.76 CR
2. Khaleb MCRAE (USA), 45.03
3. Jereem RICHARDS (TTO), 45.39 SB
4. Tomáš HORÁK (CZE), 45.70
