Saturday night, there’s everything to play for in front of a sold out crowd in Waltham, Mass. Atlantic Hockey America regular-season champion Bentley will play host to Sacred Heart in the AHA championship game. The winner gets some hardware and the coveted automatic berth to the NCAA men’s hockey tournament.

Bentley won it all last year and will seek its second ever conference title and trip to the NCAAs, while Sacred Heart will attempt to make program history with a first conference title and NCAA tournament bid.

Here’s what you need to know about the highly-anticipated matchup.

AHA Championship Game: No. 20 Bentley Vs. Sacred Heart

Bentley comes into the game ranked 20th in the USCHO Men’s College Hockey Poll. The Falcons finished conference play 16-6-4 with an overall record of 22-11-5 mark in what has been the best two-year stretch in program history as head coach Andy Jones continues to leave his mark in Waltham.

Sacred Heart, meanwhile, is in the midst of the best season in its program’s history. The Pioneers finished second in AHA with a 15-8-3 record and a program-best 23-13-3 mark overall. Similar to Bentley, the team is in the best two-run stretch in the program’s history and continue to grow within their pristine Martire Family Arena.

The Pioneers also boast one of the nation’s top goal scorers and a Hobey Baker Top 10 finalist in Felix Trudeau. The senior is second in the NCAA with 25 goals and sixth in points with 47. 

Bentley will counter with one of the top freshman goalies in the country. Lukas Swedin has a .921 save percentage in 23 games this season. The Swedish import also has a pair of shutouts and 13 wins on the campaign.

The season series has been especially even between the two sides. Sacred Heart has won two contests, while Bentley has one regulation win and a shootout win, which goes down as a tie in the national records. 

The last time the two clubs met, Sacred Heart won Game 1 in the series 4-0 before Bentley roared back with a 5-1 win the next night. That was about five weeks ago. Since, both clubs have been on a collision course to reconvene in the biggest game yet.
