The Chicoutimi Saguenéens are in the middle of one of the most explosive offensive runs the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League has seen in decades. Over their last five games, Chicoutimi has scored an astonishing 54 goals while allowing just six, a stretch highlighted by dominant victories of 13–1, 10–3, 7–0, 14–2, and 10–0.
According to league records, it marks the first time since the 1978–79 season that a team has scored as many goals over a five-game span. The run has not only showcased the Saguenéens’ offensive firepower but also their depth and defensive structure, with the club receiving strong play across its lineup while giving opponents virtually nothing in their own zone.
Leading the surge is forward Maxim Massé (ANA), who collected 20 points (7 goals, 13 assists) during the five-game stretch to climb into first place in the QMJHL scoring race with 94 points in 58 games.
Teammate Maxim Schafer (WSH) has also been instrumental in the offensive outburst. The 2025 third-round pick of the Washington Capitals recorded 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists) in the same span, an impressive surge considering he had produced 36 points in his first 43 games of the season.
Emmanuel Vermette added 14 points (4 goals, 10 assists), including a hat trick in Chicoutimi’s 10–0 victory over the Victoriaville Tigres, while Emile Guité (ANA) also recorded a hat trick during the streak, joining Vermette and Massé as the three Saguenéens players to accomplish the feat over the five-game span.
The offense has been fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Mavrik Lachance posted 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) during the stretch, while defensemen Tomas Lavoie (UTA) and Peteris Bulans chipped in 10 and 9 points, respectively, underscoring the blue line’s role in Chicoutimi’s relentless attack.
Meanwhile, forward Liam Lefebvre, acquired earlier this season from the Rimouski Océanic, continues to make an impact with his new club. The 6-foot-3 forward scored eight goals and added three assists in the last five games, and has already matched his goal total from his time in Rimouski — scoring as many goals in 20 games with Chicoutimi as he did in 34 games with the Océanic earlier this season.
Notably, the Saguenéens’ dominant stretch has also come against quality opponents. The club’s 13–1 win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs, currently third in the overall standings, and 14–2 victory against the Charlottetown Islanders, who sit seventh, highlight just how overwhelming Chicoutimi has been during this run.
With five games remaining in the regular season, the Saguenéens hold a one-point lead over the defending champion Moncton Wildcats atop the overall standings, and if this historic offensive stretch is any indication, Chicoutimi appears to be peaking at exactly the right time.
