Texas A&M Crushes Virginia Tech 10-0 At 2026 College Baseball Series

An eight-run sixth inning helped Texas A&M to a 10-0 win over Virginia Tech to end the first day of the 2026 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 3.

After a subpar 2025 campaign, the Texas A&M baseball team was picked to finish 13th this year in the powerful 16-team Southeastern Conference.

Even though conference play still is two weeks away, the Aggies have given the voters something to think about over the first couple weeks of the new season.

Texas A&M is 9-0 in 2026 and scored 35 runs in a pair of wins this week, including a 10-0 victory Friday night against Virginia Tech at the 2026 College Baseball Series in Arlington, Texas.

It was the first road game of the season for the Aggies, who are ranked No. 23, and their first meeting with the Hokies, despite the teams having a combined history of more than 250 years.

Th historic showdown was part of the first day of the 2026 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 3, the last of three exciting weekends for the CBS at Globe Life Field, home of the 2023 World Series-winning Texas Rangers.

The day’s action started with an 8-4 win for No. 4 Mississippi State against Arizona State and a 12-5 victory for No. 1 UCLA over No. 20 Tennessee. And, just like every game over the last two weekends, it all unfolded live on FloCollege and the FloSports app.

On the way to the blowout win Friday, Texas A&M scored one run in the opening inning on a home run from junior infielder Chris Hacopian and another with some small ball in the fourth, before breaking open the contest with an eight-run sixth inning.

The Aggies sent 11 batters to the plate and used four doubles, including two from senior Jake Duer, to put the game out of reach.

Texas A&M scored the 10 runs on 10 hits, with Duer, Terrence Kiel II and Blake Binderup accounting for six of them, recording two apiece.

Redshirt junior left-hander Shane Sdao got the job done on the mound and picked up his second win of the season. He pitched six innings, giving up four hits, while striking out five and walking one. Freshman southpaw Cole Hubert pitched a one-hit seventh inning to shut the door on the Hokies.

Two years removed from a runner-up finish to Tennessee at the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, Texas A&M is looking to rebound from a disappointing 2025 season – and the Aggies are off to a great start.

They made the cross-state trip to the DFW metroplex at 8-0 on the season (all at home), including a 25-5, seven-inning victory over Lamar on Tuesday, and quickly proved they can win on the road, too.

Unranked Virginia Tech also is off to a hot start this season after being picked to finish 11th in the 16-team ACC. The Hokies arrived in Texas at 7-1 overall and riding a three-game winning streak.

Against Texas A&M, they only managed five hits, which came from three players – freshman Ethan Ball (two), junior Nick Locurto (two) and redshirt senior Treyson Hughes (one).

A pair of errors in the field, a couple of wild pitches, two hit batters and three walks added to the troubles for the Hokies, who also left six runners on base in the game.

Junior right-hander Brett Renfrow got the loss for Virginia Tech (7-2), and he falls to 0-2 on the season.

Renfrow tossed five innings Friday, giving up two runs on five hits, while striking out seven and walking one. He faced 20 batters as the first of the four Virginia Tech pitchers.

The 2026 season marks the sixth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field and the third straight year the action spans three weekends.

The schedule includes the Shriners Children’s College Showdown (Feb. 13-15), Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 2 (Feb. 20-22) and Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 3 (Feb. 27-March 1), all of which has brought 18 Division I programs to Arlington’s Entertainment District for almost 30 games.

Among the teams playing this week are more than 30 MLB prospects who have first-round draft potential over the next two years, including UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky, who is considered the No. 1 prospect in the draft and is unanimously viewed as the top pick in 2026.

Cholowsky’s Bruins are 7-2 this season but have maintained their spot atop the D1 Baseball Top 25. They reached the Men’s College World Series last season for the first time since 2013.

Up next for Virginia Tech is a meeting with Mississippi State on Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern, while Texas A&M returns to GLF for another late game, a Day 2 nightcap against top-ranked UCLA.

About Virginia Tech Baseball

Last season, Virginia Tech was 31-25 overall and 12-18 in ACC games.

The Hokies finished 12th in the conference standings and got bounced from the 2025 ACC Baseball Championship with a second-round loss to eventual runner-up Clemson.

North Carolina topped the Tigers in the title game.

For VT, the 2025 results were on par with recent seasons, but maybe this year’s hot start is a sign of good things to come.

About Texas A&M Baseball

The last time the Texas A&M played at Globe Life Field was in 2024, posting a 3-0 record with two wins over Arizona State and a triumph over USC.

That season ended with the team’s eighth trip to the Men’s College World Series, though the Aggies came up short against Tennessee.

Prior to that, they made it to Omaha in 2022, so if you’re superstitious, does that mean Texas A&M is a lock for 2026?

The Aggies are coming off a 30-26 campaign that included an 11-19 mark in SEC competition and saw them finish third from the bottom of the conference standings.

They earned the No. 14 seed for the 2025 SEC Baseball Tournament and won two games, before being dispensed by eventual national champion LSU.

Texas A&M is in a tough spot. Is it better to be a middle-of-the-road team in the most powerful conference in college baseball, the one that has claimed every national title since 2019, or a top team in a lesser conference?

Amazingly, 11 of the 16 teams in the SEC started this season ranked in the top 25.
