When you think about elite wrestling, it’s hard not to think about what kind of chaos and excitement could be happening in Pennsylvania this year, from the youth ranks up to the dominant Penn State Nittany Lions.

The Keystone State also is home to sensation Bo Bassett, the top recruit in the Class of 2026 and a star for Bishop McCort, the No. 2-ranked team in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AA this season. Individually, Bassett is No. 1 in the FloWrestling rankings, both pound-for-pound and at 150 pounds. 

But before the 19-year-old can take a run at his third PIAA individual state title, he’ll get the opportunity to help his school find redemption at the 2026 PIAA Team Wrestling State Championships, which will be held Feb. 6-7 at the 1st Summit Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

The 2026 PIAA Team Wrestling State Championships will include 20 teams that survive the preliminary and first round of the tournament, which will be held Feb. 3 at host schools across the state.

The advancing teams will make their way to Johnstown for two more days of intense competition, with the 1st Summit Arena hosting the quarterfinals through the championship matches. 

In Pennsylvania this year, there are 475 schools participating in boys wrestling. 

They are divided into two classifications – 228 schools in AA and 247 schools in AAA – which are further split into 12 districts. Class AA is for schools with 1-308 male enrollees, and Class AAA wrestling includes schools with 309-9999 male students. 

Bassett, whose school has 112 male students, originally committed to the University of Iowa but backed out and now is headed to Virginia Tech next season. 

From 2022-2025, he was undefeated at 126-0 and had a successful at the 2025 PIAA Team Wrestling State Championships, though his team came up short. 

Bassett won his three matches at the state meet, but Bishop McCort fell to Faith Christian Academy in the title tilt, 34-25. 

In Class AAA, Bethlehem Catholic topped Nazareth Area in the final, 44-28.

What Teams Won At The 2025 PIAA Team Wrestling State Championships?

The wins were the fourth consecutive for Bethlehem Catholic and third straight for Faith Christian.

The first year for the PIAA Wrestling Team State Championships was the 1998-1999 season.

When Are The 2026 PIAA Boys & Girls Individual State Wrestling Championships?

The 2026 PIAA Boys & Girls Individual State Wrestling Championships will take place March 5-7, live on FloWrestling and the FloSports app.

The first girls wrestling champions in PIAA action were determined in 2024.

The road back to the GIANT Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, will begin regional competition across 12 sites (eight boys, four girls) in February (Feb. 20-21; Feb. 22; Feb. 27-28; Feb. 28)

Among the highlights at the 2025 event was Bassett winning his second individual PIAA state championship and helping Bishop McCort to a Class AA runner-up finish behind Faith Christian.

Did You Know: There’s A Bethlehem Catholic Dynasty In PIAA Team Wrestling

Bethlehem Catholic holds the record for titles at the PIAA Team Wrestling State Championships and has been dominant across both classifications on the way to 11 all-time victories.

The program claimed four consecutive crowns in Class AA from 2011-2014, won in Class AAA in 2016, 2018 and 2019 and now has won the last four titles in Class AAA.

The seven AAA wins is a record, along with the 11 title overall.

Reynolds holds the AA record with eight titles, including five in a row from 2017-2021.

In 2025, Bo Bassett became the third wrestler to win four Ironman titles, while Faith Christian Academy captured its second straight team title.

Five PIAA-affiliated schools entered the 2025 Ironman – one of the nation’s toughest high school tournaments – and that group produced three schools that finished inside the top 20, two individual champions and 11 total medalists.
