Kim Weiss has become the second woman to step behind an AHL bench on a full-time basis.

The Colorado Eagles announced Friday that the 36-year-old Weiss has been named an assistant coach. In her second season as the team's video coach, she had stepped in this past Tuesday night for assistant coach Derek Army, who missed the team's 6-3 home loss to the Ontario Reign. Before Weiss, Jessica Campbell had spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Campbell has since been promoted to the parent Seattle Kraken as an assistant coach and is in her second season in that role.

Mark Letestu is in his first season as the Eagles' head coach. Along with Weiss, the Eagles have Army and Tim Branham rounding out their coaching staff.

Weiss had worked with the parent Colorado Avalanche as a guest coach in 2023-24. Her responsibilities with the Avs organization have also included development camp and training camp. She also was an assistant coach at Trinity College, where she played four seasons and is the school's all-time leading scorer. Her coaching background features work with USA Hockey and the NAHL's Maryland Black Bears as well.

The 22-8-1-3 Eagles, who are second in the Pacific Division, will return to action Saturday night when the Henderson Silver Knights visit for a the first of back-to-back games.
