Buffalo Sabres Bring Two-Time Stanley Cup Champion Stacy Roest Aboard
The Buffalo Sabres hired long-time Tampa Bay Lightning executive Stacy Roest as a pro scout. Roest previously was general manager of the Syracuse Crunch.

Jarmo Kekäläinen’s front-office makeover with the Buffalo Sabres continues.
Kekäläinen, who replaced Kevyn Adams as Buffalo’s general manager Dec. 15, has not wasted any time in reshaping his management team. His first move was dismissing Rochester Americans general manager Jason Karmanos five days after taking over. The next day he added Marc Bergevin as his new associate general manager and brought over Josh Flynn from the Columbus Blue Jackets as an assistant general manager.

Now Kekäläinen's latest hire is long-time Tampa Bay Lightning executive Stacy Roest as a Sabres pro scout. The Sabres announced the move Tuesday.
Roest comes to the Sabres after an extensive management portfolio with the Tampa Bay Lightning that featured a pair of Stanley Cup championships. He served as Tampa Bay’s director of player personnel throughout his 12 seasons in the organization. For six of those six seasons he served as general manager of Tampa Bay’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. His file also involved six seasons in Syracuse as an assistant coach, including a trip to the Calder Cup Finals in 2017.
Roest departed the Tampa Bay organization after last season. He most recently served as Hockey Canada’s associate general manager for its Spengler Cup team last month and worked alongside Bergevin for that tournament.
With Karmanos no longer with the Buffalo organization, the Amerks remain without an official general manager. Fourth in the North Division, the 18-12-3-1 Amerks will host Syracuse on Wednesday night.
Despite the Lightning’s run as a perennial Stanley Cup contender that often had to trade away draft picks, Roest’s Syracuse teams always stayed competitive. While the Calder Cup Playoffs were not held in 2020 and 2021, the Crunch qualified for the postseason in each of Roest’s final four seasons running the Crunch. Syracuse finished no worse than third in the North Division in any of those final four campaigns.
Tampa Bay only had three first-round picks between 2017 and 2022, but Syracuse graduates Declan Carlile, Max Crozier, Jack Finley, Gage Goncalves, and Darren Raddysh all spent time with the Crunch during Roest’s time as general manager before moving on to the Lightning.
