Leinster and Stade Rochelais renew one of the Investec Champions Cup’s defining rivalries with a January pool-stage clash that carries both recent history and immediate stakes.

Leinster enters unbeaten in its last five matches and perfect through the opening two Champions Cup rounds, including wins over Harlequins (45-28) and Leicester (23-15). That consistency has positioned the Irish side strongly as pool play tightens.

Stade Rochelais arrives following a dominant 66-0 Top 14 victory over Toulon, but its European form has been uneven. 

The French club opened Champions Cup play with a 39-20 win over Leicester, before suffering a 42-21 loss to the Stormers in Round 2. That result leaves little margin as La Rochelle faces a Leinster side that has controlled recent meetings between the teams.

The most recent matchup came in January 2025, when Leinster edged Stade Rochelais 16-14. 

Leinster has won the last three encounters, though Stade Rochelais claimed the two meetings before that stretch. 

With both teams familiar with the intensity and precision this rivalry demands, execution and discipline again will be decisive as pool play continues.
