Division III women’s basketball is heating up at the perfect time, and this week’s slate offers a glimpse into why the national picture remains wide open.

Undefeated NYU continues to anchor the top of the rankings, but conference challenges are starting to test every contender.

Scranton and Smith remain unbeaten and firmly in the national title conversation, while regional matchups are taking on postseason weight.

With momentum shifting and rankings tightening, games like NYU vs. Brandeis, Scranton vs. Susquehanna and Smith vs. Springfield are more than just dates on the calendar — they are measuring sticks in a division defined by depth, urgency and opportunity.

Here's a breakdown of three must-watch DIII games this week.

Smith vs. Springfield — Jan. 10 at 1:00 p.m. ET

A NEWMAC showdown takes center stage as unbeaten Smith meets conference challenger Springfield. Smith sits atop the league at 11-0, coming off a composed 66-54 win over Hamilton.

Springfield, 9-4 overall, enters with momentum after edging Amherst 70-66 in its last outing. With the top two spots in the NEWMAC standings in play, this matchup carries early postseason implications.

NYU vs. Brandeis — Jan. 10 at 3:00 p.m. ET

Undefeated NYU enters its UAA opener at 11-0, with seven triple-digit performances highlighting one of the most explosive offenses in Division III. The Violets most recently dismantled Skidmore 118-52 and now face their stiffest early conference test.

Brandeis, 10-1 overall, comes in fresh off a 78-56 win over Wheaton and sits just behind NYU atop the UAA standings. With both teams opening league play, early conference positioning is on the line.

Scranton vs. Susquehanna — Jan. 11 at 2:30 p.m. ET

Scranton has rolled to an 11-0 start and a 4-0 Landmark record, punctuated by a dominant 74-28 win over Penn State Harrisburg — its largest margin of victory this season. The Royals will tune up against Landmark No. 2 Elizabethtown before hosting Susquehanna in another critical league matchup.

Susquehanna enters at 10-1 overall and 3-1 in conference, coming off a tight 63-61 win over Montclair State. It sets up a clash between Scranton’s dominance and Susquehanna’s ability to grind out close games.
