Top Reasons To Watch The 2025 Beast Of The East

The Beast of the East wrestling tournament is one of the crown jewel wrestling events of the high school season. The boys division at this year's Beast features a loaded field, interesting team race, along with plenty of other storylines to follow throughout the weekend. Here we breakdown why you need to tune in this weekend to watch!

2025 Beast of the East

2025 Beast of the East Schedule

36 Nationally Ranked Wrestlers

This year's Beast of the East field is plenty deep with 36 wrestlers currently ranked in the top-20 in the country in their respective weight classes, expect there to be a ton of high-level early-round matchups and plenty of shakeups in the rankings when the dust settles. The three most noteworthy weights to watch would probably be 113 that has five nationally ranked competitors, 150 that will feature six nationally ranked foes, and 165 pounds that will have four nationally ranked competitors fighting for the title of Beast of the East.

Check out all the ranked wrestlers competing in the Beast of the East this weekend, HERE.

U17 World Bronze Tanner Hodgins Returns

After winning his second New Jersey state medal last season with a third-place finish, Tanner Hodgins turned a lot of heads this summer. Hodgins make the U17 World Team at 92 kg and went on to win U17 World Bronze, helping the United States win the U17 World Team Championship in a close team race against Iran. The last time we saw Hodgins compete in a major event, he fell 4-2 at Who's Number One to Adam Waters. The insane depth of the 190 pound Ironman bracket a week ago really shook up the national rankings and Hodgins fell victim to not being in the field for that tournament and fell from #2 in the country down to #4 due to impressive performances by Michael White and Carl Betz. The Oklahoma State commit will look to get back in the conversation and win his first Beast of the East title this weekend in a bracket that will also feature #10 Dominic Sumpolec and #11 Salah Tsarni, who finished 5th and 4th last weekend at Ironman.

Three #1's

We will be treated to watching three #1 ranked wrestlers in the country wrestle in Newark, Delaware this weekend. At 113 pounds, #1 Rylan Seacrist will look to proceed with his winning ways after incredible performances at Fargo and Ironman and win his first Beast of the East title after finishing second a year ago. #1 Landon Sidun at 120 pounds has seemed to turned it up a notch this year after suffering a season ending injury in early February last season. Sidun has started the year 11-0 with all pins and tech falls besides two forfeits, and after defeated defending champion Joe Bachmann in an incredible 3-2 tiebreaker final last year, will look to go back-to-back in a bracket with #8 Michael Batista and #10 Alex Rozas also in the field. At 150 pounds, we will get to see #1 Bo Bassett go after a title he has actually never won, as this will be the first and only Beast of the East Bassett will get to compete in. Bassett has looked incredible over the last couple of months and put on a clinic last weekend for his fourth Ironman title. Will he add a Beast of the East title to his trophy case? Tune in to find out!

#1 vs. #2 Rematches Loom at 113 and 150 lbs

We get the opportunity to see two very high profile rematches happen this weekend. At 113 pounds, #1 Rylan Seacrist and #2 Justin Farnsworth have now met in two major tournament finals, with Seacrist coming out the victor on both occasions. In the 113-pound Junior Fargo finals this past summer, Seacrist led 2-1 with about 40 seconds to go in the second period before hitting a huge four-point double leg to go on to win the 113-pound stop sign, 6-1. Last week at Ironman, both Seacrist and Farnsworth had really impressive performances as Seacrist nearly bonused his way to the finals and Farnsworth was able to avenge his 2024 Ironman finals loss against Caleb Noble in the semifinals. In the finals however, it was all Seacrist who blew the match open with a nearside cradle late in the first period and went on to win by an 11-3 major decision. Can Farnsworth get his revenge against Seacrist this weekend and win his second-straight Beast of the East title?

At 150 pounds, we could see #1 Bo Bassett and #2 Charlie Desena meet for the second time in the last couple of months. Back in October, these two met in the 150-pound finals of Super 32, and while Desena had some moments in that match, ultimately it was Bassett doing what he does and coming away with the 13-4 major decision. With that win, Bassett became the first person to win four Super 32 titles. Last weekend, we saw the future Virginia Tech Hokie become just the third ever to win four Ironman titles. Desena could definitely be tested in this field that includes, #6 Sonny Amato, #10 Brady Hand, #15 Tyler Traves, and #17 Brooklyn Pickett. He will look to navigate the field and earn another opportunity to take on Bassett this weekend.

Incredible Team Race Brewing

With nine teams out of the Flo 40 National High School Team Rankings competing at the Beast of the East, this weekend's team race could really be one to remember. Of the teams competing this weekend that competed last weekend at Ironman, it was #2 Blair Academy with the best performance, finishing second-place with 129 points. Not too far behind them, however, were #5 Lake Highland Prep with 120 points,  #6 Malvern Prep with 112 points, and #7 Bishop McCort with 88.5 points. With the amount of fire power these teams are sporting this weekend, don't be surprised if any of these four teams are able to come away with the team title.
