Michigan High School Wrestlers to Watch
Michigan consistently produces a significant amount of high school wrestling talent, and that trend has continued this season.

Throughout the decades, Michigan's high school wrestling ranks have produced the likes of Olympic gold medalists Steve Fraser and Kevin Jackson and multi-time NCAA champions Brent Metcalf and Mark Churella.
The state begins this season with five nationally-ranked wrestlers and three who can become the latest to capture four state championships.
Here’s a look at a dozen of the top wrestlers to keep an eye on this season in Michigan.
Jarrett Smith (Lowell) — Senior, 120 pounds
No other Michigan wrestler is ranked higher nationally than Smith, who's currently #3 at 113 pounds. The two-time Division 2 state champion and Stanford commit also placed third in the state as a freshman and brings a 115-13 high school record into this season.
The multi-time Fargo All-American was honorable mention on the Nike High School Boys Preseason All-American Team and is #94 on the Class of 2026 Big Board. Smith was third in Fargo freestyle competition this year and recently won a Grappler Gold Invitational title.
Blake Cosby (Dundee) — Senior, 165 pounds
Currently ranked #7 nationally at 157, the University of Michigan signee is one of the state's four returning, unbeaten state champions. Cosby finished 37-0 last season on the way to a second Division 3 state title, upping his career record to 123-8 coming into this season. Cosby was second in the state as a freshman.
The Fargo All-American was honorable mention on the Nike High School Boys Preseason All-American Team and is #33 on the Class of 2026 Big Board. Cosby finished eighth at Super 32 after placing second in 2024.
Nick Sorrow (Hudson) — Senior, 132 pounds
The Michigan State commit is ranked #18 nationally and hopes to join the four-time state champions club, which now numbers just over 40. Sorrow is also in a position to become a four-time team state champion this season with Hudson seeking a fifth straight Division 4 title.
Sorrow, who boasts a 157-3 high school record, won U17 Pan Am Greco gold and freestyle silver during the offseason. He placed in the top four in freestyle and Greco at the U17 World Team Trials.
Grayson Fuchs (Detroit Catholic Central) — Junior, 150 pounds
The future Purdue Boilermaker is seeking a third straight Division 1 state championship and has gone 84-8 his first two high school seasons. He's #32 on the Class of 2027 Big Board. Fuchs finished eighth at Super 32 this fall.
Fuchs was dominant during last season's state tournament, including three technical falls and a 14-2 decision in the title match.
Logan Tollison (Grand Ledge) — Senior, 285 pounds
The Michigan State commit has progressed from not reaching the state podium as a freshman to state runner-up as a sophomore to Division 1 unbeaten state champion last season. Tollison took a 45-match winning streak and a 131-13 record into this season.
He pinned half of his opponents last season, going 46-0, and outscored the competition by a 27-4 margin during the 2025 state tournament.
Ranked #18 nationally, he enjoyed a memorable autumn, winning a Grappler Fall Classic title and finishing fifth at Super 32.
Wyatt Lees (Detroit Catholic Central) — Senior, 138 pounds
Lees captured his third Division 1 state championship last season, going 39-5 with 21 pins.
He begins the season with a 129-20 mark overall and placed third in this year's Grappler Fall Classic, knocking off Army commit Alexander Denkins of Perrysburg, Ohio in the third-place match.
Dale Gant (Grand Rapids Catholic Central) — Senior, 132 pounds
The future Michigan State Spartan is also poised to become a four-time state champion after capturing his third straight Division 3 title last season during which he went 36-1.
Gant took a 123-9 record into this season.
Bohdan Abbey (Hartland) — Senior, 138 pounds
The University of Michigan signee won his second Division 1 state championship in three years last season, finishing 45-1 and going unbeaten against state of Michigan wrestlers. Abbey was second in the state as a sophomore.
He was fifth at this year's Grappler Fall Classic and carried a 150-5 record into this season.
Mason Katschor (Dundee) — Junior, 132 pounds
Coming off a Grappler Fall Classic championship, Katschor is gunning for a third Division 3 state championship. He began this season by placing second in the Grappler Gold Invitational, losing to an Ohio wrestler in the final.
Katschor, who won his 2025 state title with a second-period pin, took an 80-11 record into this season.
Dallas Korponic (Hartland) — Senior, 157 pounds
The Central Michigan commit is seeking a third Division 1 state championship this season.
He finished third in the state as a freshman before two straight title runs. He owns a 146-18 high school record.
Jay'Den Williams (Roseville) — Senior, 175 pounds
The future Michigan Wolverine was simply dominant in winning his first Division 1 state championship last season after placing second as a freshman and sophomore.
Williams went 53-0 and none of his matches went the distance as he won 49 via technical fall, including the state championship match, two by pin and two by foreit. He brought a sterling 149-3 career record into this season.
Williams was a two-time All-American in Fargo, finishing second in Greco and sixth in freestyle. He was also a 2024 Grapper Fall Classic finalist.
Cristian Haslem (St. Clair) — Senior, 132 pounds
After a pair of runner-up finishes, the Central Michigan recruit captured his first Division 2 state championship last season, averaging a loss to Battle Creek Harper Creek’s Devan Garcia.
Haslem went 41-0 last season, upping his career mark to 136-3.
