Rugby Round-Up: Champions Cup Preview

The Investec Champions Cup opens with the first meeting in history between Bayonne and the DHL Stormers, bringing together two clubs with contrasting recent histories but equal motivation in Round 1. 

Bayonne arrives having won three of its last five matches in the Top 14, leaning into home advantage at Stade Jean Dauger and the stability gained from domestic form. 

Their style remains physical and structured, built on continuity and discipline, and they look to test themselves against one of the global standard-setters in club rugby.

The Stormers enter this match as the No. 1-ranked club in the world and undefeated in the URC at 6-0-0. Their depth already has been tested during the early season, and Round 1 presents another challenge as they play without Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Damian Willemse, who featured for South Africa on Nov. 29. 

Even so, the Stormers demonstrated their resilience that same weekend, beating Munster Rugby in Ireland without either international. That ability to adapt quickly continues to define their progression.
