Nike All-American Spotlight: Rios, Borge, Cassioppi, Mastny, & Hoare Rise

Last week, the Nike Boys Preseason All-American Team was announced, presenting first team, second team, third team, and honorable mention selections at all 14 boys high school weight classes. This week, we're shining a spotlight on five wrestlers whose outstanding performances over the summer and fall have made them fan favorites as the 2025-26 begins.

Jorge Rios - Honorable Mention, 113 lbs

St. John Bosco's Jorge Rios had a solid freshman campaign a season ago highlighted by a fourth place finish at Doc Buchanan in January and a third place finish at California's single-class state championship. Despite that success, he entered the 113-pound division at Super 32 in October outside the top twenty national rankings. That changed in a hurry when Rios won a loaded bracket and notched victories over multiple ranked opponents along the way.

Rios' path to a Super 32 belt included wins over #7 Sean Kenny, #9 Keegan Bassett, and #15 Chase Karenbauer which propelled him to #6 in the national rankings and earned him a spot on the Nike Preseason All-American Team.

Israel Borge - Honorable Mention, 132 lbs

Future Iowa Hawkeye Israel Borge is one of the top prospects in the class of 2027 due in large part to his strong performances in the last 12 months. As a sophomore, he finished 6th at Ironman and won titles at the Missouri state championships and NHSCAs all at 138 lbs. His strongest performance came in October when he dropped to 132 lbs for Super 32 where he reached the finals.

Borge put himself in the spotlight by knocking off #14 Deven Lopez and future Iowa teammate and U17 World medalist Fred Bachmann en route to the Super 32 finals.

Rocco Cassioppi - 3rd Team, 150 lbs

Hononegah, Illinois junior Rocco Cassioppi's stellar off season earned him third-team Nike Preseason All-American honors. Cassioppi reached the finals of the U17 US Open last April and finished third at Super 32 in October falling only to #1 Bo Bassett. Cassioppi shot up the rankings after Super 32 due to victories over #4 Michael Turi, #7 Bently Sly, #14 Jason Dube, and #16 Colin Rutlin.

Recently, Rocco and his brother Bruno committed to the University of Wisconsin which gives the Badgers a top-ten 2027 recruiting class ranking. Cassioppi will look to navigate a tough field in Illinois this season to build his already-solid resume.

Jimmy Mastny - Honorable Mention, 190 lbs

Marian Central, Illinois' Jimmy Mastny enters his junior season after a highly productive fall in which he went 7-0 at Elite 8 Duals and won a Super 32 title. During those two events, Mastny defeated #6 Ryder Wilder, #7 William Ward, #9 Michael White, #10 Brady Brown, #13 Devin Downes, and #19 John Murphy to establish his hold on this weight class.

Mastny's success hasn't slowed down since the start of the high school season. Last week, he ran into U17 World medalist #3 Aaron Stewart at the Marmion Cadet Classic and came away with a 4-1 victory after earning the only takedown of the match late in the second period.

DuBois, Pennsylvania sophomore Kendahl Hoare wrapped his freshman season with a sixth place finish at PIAAs. Over the summer, he took home 7th place from the 16U division in Fargo then followed that up with a runner-up performance at Super 32.

Now, Hoare enters his sophomore season as the #6 ranked wrestler in the country at 215 lbs. His victories over #7 Daniel Moylan, #9 Ceasar Salas, and #11 Decker Bechtold bolster his position in the top 20 and his honorable mention spot on the Nike Preseason All-American Team.
