Oklahoma State Wrestling Takes Down Arizona State, 25-11

Follow along as #5 Oklahoma State travels to #19 Arizona State for an early-season test between Big 12 foes. The dual is streaming live at 3 p.m. EST on Sunday, Nov. 23, on ESPN+. 

The Cowboys (5-1) finished third at the National Duals Invitational on November 15-16, and downed Air Force, 34-6, on November 21 during their western swing. 

The Sun Devils (0-2) lost to #10 Michigan (30-10) and #8 Lehigh (24-18) at the National Duals. 

157: #2 Landon Robideau (OSU) over Chance McLane (ASU), 16-5 major decision
First period: Robideau hits a single and scores out of bounds for a 3-0 lead. Robideau releases McLane for an escape with 1:20 left. Robideau scores another takedown near the edge for a 6-1 lead with 25 seconds left. Robideau rides out the period, maintaining his 6-1 lead. 

Second period: McLane starts on bottom and escapes with 1:15 left, cutting the lead to 6-2. Robideau scores on a reshot for a 9-2 lead. Robideau releases McLane and leads 9-3 at the break. 

Third period: Robideau picks neutral and scores another takedown near the edge with 45 seconds left and then releases McLane for a 12-4 lead. Robideau adds another takedown for a 15-5 lead with 17 seconds after an escape. Robideau wins 16-5 with riding time.

165: #17 Nicco Ruiz (ASU) over Kody Routledge (OSU), 10-9 decision
First period: Ruiz hits a low single, Routledge counters, a long scramble ensues, and Routledge eventually scores with a low double for a 3-0 lead with 57 seconds left. Ruiz escapes, but Routledge is on a low shot and eventually scores for a 6-2 lead after an escape.

Second period: Ruiz picks bottom, gets to his feet, and escapes in eight seconds, cutting the lead in half. Routledge hits another low shot, head-to-toe scramble, and Ruiz comes out on top for a takedown, tying the score 6-6. Ruiz is working hard on top with a bar arm, as Routledge warned for stalling on bottom. The period ends with Ruiz on top and the score tied, 6-6.

Third period: Routledge chooses neutral. Long scramble as Routledge comes out on top halfway through the period for a 9-6 lead with 47 seconds left. Ruiz escapes, giving Routledge a 9-7 lead. Ruiz scores a low double with 17 seconds left followed by a stall call. Ruiz rides out the period for the 10-9 win.

174: #8 Alex Facundo (OSU) over Cael Valencia (ASU), 18-8 major decision
First period: Low shot by Facundo but Valencia scrambles out for a stalemate with 2:23 left. Facundo hits another low single but Valencia scrambles out the back and gets the takedown for a 3-0 lead with 55 seconds left. Facundo escapes for his first point of the match. Valencia attempts to jump over Facundo, but no score as time expires. Valencia leads, 3-1.

Second period: Facundo starts on bottom and escapes, but Valencia leads, 3-2. Facundo has a single but Valencia counters with a crotch lift, and Facundo eventually gets three for a 6-3 lead with 16 seconds left. 

Third period: Valencia chooses bottom and escapes, but Facundo leads, 6-4. Facundo secures a takedown on a low double finish for a 9-5 lead after an escape. Facundo scores again for a 12-5 lead with 1:01 left. Facundo releases Valencia and scores at the edge for a 15-6 lead with 15-7 lead after an intentional escape. Facundo scores another takedown and escape for an 18-8 win.

Oklahoma State 8, Arizona State 3

184: Zack Ryder (OSU) over Azizbek Fayzullaev (ASU), 4-0 decision
First period: Ryder hits a low shot with 1:20 left, attempts to come out the back door, but Fayzullaev stalemates the position. No score. 

Second period: Ryder chooses bottom and escapes in nine seconds for the first point of the match. Ryder scores a takedown on a throw by for a 4-0 lead with 50 seconds left. Ryder finishes the period on top. 

Third period: Fayzullaev chooses neutral. Ryder has a single but Fayzullaev fights out and back to neutral. Ryder hits a straight double, but Fayzullaev counters out again. Ryder wins, 4-0.

Oklahoma State 11, Arizona State 3

197: #9 Cody Merrill (OSU) over Max Acciardi (ASU), 22-6 tech
First period: Merrill hits a straight single and scores with 2:11 left. Acciardi, cutting the lead to 3-1, but Merrill scores another single for a 6-2 lead after an escape. Acciardi forced an inside trip from double overhooks but Merrill defends and scores near the end of the period for a 9-2 lead. 

Second period: Merrill picks down, escapes, scores another takedown, and gives up an escape for a 13-3 lead. Merrill scores another single for a 16-4 lead after an escape. Merrill has a cradle as time expires, but doesn't score.

Third period: Acciardi picks down and Merrill releases intentionally for a 16-5 lead. Merrill hits a low single and scores again, an intentional escape, and another takedown makes it 22-6.

Oklahoma State 16, Arizona State 3

285: #8 Konner Doucet (OSU) over David Szuba (ASU), 5-2 decision
First period: No scoring.

Second period: Doucet chooses bottom and escapes immediately for a 1-0 lead. Single leg by Doucet, but Szuba counters out. 

Third period: Szuba starts on bottom. Szuba escapes, but Doucet has riding time and scores on a go-behind for a 5-2 win after an escape and riding time. 

Oklahoma State 19, Arizona State 3

125: #8 Troy Spratley (OSU) over Damian Moreno, 4-1
First period: Moreno hits a shot off the whistle, but a stalemate is called with 2:20 left. Long scramble at the end of the period that yields no points. No score.

Second period: Spratley starts on bottom and Moreno cuts him in 22 seconds. Spratley leads 1-0. Spratley scores on a straight double with 48 seconds left for a 4-0 lead. 

Third period: Moreno stars on bottom and escapes immediately, making the score 4-1 in favor of Spratley. Stalling on Spratley as Moreno takes a shot. Stalemate called with 14 seconds left. Spratley wins, 4-1.

Oklahoma State 22, Arizona State 3

133: Kyle Larkin (ASU) over Richie Figueroa (OSU), 10-5 decision
First period: Figueroa hits a double off the whistle and eventually scores, but Larkin escapes. Larkin has a tight front headlock, but Figueroa gets out of the position. Figueroa warned for stalling halfway through the period as he backs out of bounds. Figueroa has a single as Larkin switches positions and has a single near the edge, but a stalemate is called with 40 seconds left. Larkin scores a second point on a stall call. Larkin nearly scores a takedown at the edge, but doesn't get the call despite hooking the ankle. Jones asks for a review. Larkin gets three points on the takedown after the review and leads, 5-3. 

Second period: Larkin picks bottom and Figueroa releases immediately, giving Larkin a 6-3 lead. Larkin has a tight front headlock, head in the hole, attempts to hook the leg, and is awarded a takedown. Oklahoma State challenges the call. After the review, no takedown was awarded. The score is still 6-3. Another stall call against Figueroa, for a 7-3 lead for Larkin. Larkin stuffs a shot near the end of the period, but no points. 

Third period: Figueroa starts on bottom and appears committed to a ride with a big mat return, but Figueroa escapes, and Larkin runs the corner and scores another takedown for a 10-5 lead after an escape. Figueroa hits a low shot, has the leg in the air, and pushes him out of bounds. Larkin holds on for a 10-5 win.

141: #2 Sergio Vega (OSU) over Pierson Manville (ASU), 8-3 decision
First period: Manville drives Vega out of bounds on a single, but no points. Vega hits a single and eventually scores after a scramble. Manville powers out from bottom and gets an escape. 

Second period: Manville starts on bottom and gets a reversal, but Vega gets the escape. Vega still leads, 4-3. Vega hits a high crotch and Manville steps over and gets out of the position. No scoring at the end of the period. Vega leads, 4-3.

Third period: Vega chooses bottom and escapes in 30 seconds for a 5-3 lead. Vega adds another takedown for an 8-3 win.

First period: Sheets hits a single, but Larkin gets out. No score. Larkin scores on a cross ankle pick for the opening takedown. Sheets escapes. Another cross ankle pick yields another takedown. Larkin leads 6-1.

Second period: Larkin starts on bottom and escapes immediately for a 7-1 lead. Larkin scores on a single for a 10-2 lead after an escape. Another takedown and escape makes it 13-3. Sheets hits a low single and Larkin scrambles out for a takedown and a 16-3 lead.
