It was a must-watch FCS regular season finale: the Villanova Wildcats hosted 2026 CAA newcomer Sacred Heart Pioneers in their first head-to-head game ever.
Mark Ferrante's Wildcats had one more chance to show off before FCS Playoff Selection Sunday and earn a first round bye. The only team standing in their way? The 8-3 Pioneers, plus a Rhode Island loss wouldn't have hurt.
The 'Cats had the home field advantage in their pocket as they extended an eight-game win streak and completed their third season in a row without a loss at Villanova Stadium.

Sacred Heart 10, Villanova 34
Villanova made it look easy against the Sacred Heart Pioneers with huge contributions from usual suspects Ja'briel Mace, Pat McQuaide, and Isaiah Ragland. Mace's 165 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns puts him at the top of the list today, averaging a ridiculous 18.3 yards per carry and tallying yet another 50+ yard touchdown run.
SHU's Snyder went 28-35 for 278 yards and 1 TD, 1 INT. Their biggest struggles came in the form of the running game's sputtering start, failing to find success until the final minutes of the game. Penalties and turnovers on downs were also an issue, leaving easy points on the table—especially early in the game.

Sacred Heart Not Giving Up - 2:00 4Q
Sacred Heart 10, Villanova 35
In what might be their final drive of the regular season, Sacred Heart is not giving up.
Snyder found Palmieri for a 27 yard pass as they try to add a few more points to the board before leaving the turf.
Trey Eberhart rushed up the middle for a 5 yard gain to take us into the two minute timeout.
Time ticked down as they approached the redzone but much like their running game, it was too little too late for Sacred Heart.
Villanova Three And Out, Punt - 3:11 4Q
Sacred Heart 10, Villanova 35
Quarterback Jack Ryder stepped in to finish the game now that Pat McQuaide steered the game into a comfortable lead.
With less than four minutes to go, Nova went three and out with the new quarterback after eating about two more minutes off the clock.
Snyder Complete To Rhoades For 46 Yard Pass, Nova INT - 5:08 4Q
Sacred Heart 10, Villanova 35
The home team answered quickly, and to their misfortune, Sacred Heart's deficit is just as big as it was when the fourth quarter started.
Jack Snyder threw a bomb to the right where Payton Rhoades was able to bright it down, wide open before cutting back to the center of the field. He was able to get all the way to the 9 yard line before being brought down by Josh Oluremi.
Right after the big pass play, Snyder threw to the endzone but Nova's Lyson came up with the catch while running out of bounds. It was initially called incomplete and overturned after a long review.
Touchdown: Ragland Piles It On - 7:37 4Q
Sacred Heart 10, Villanova 35
Pat McQuaide has been rock solid for Villanova all day, completing 16 for 28 attempts and getting 205 yards.
Chris Colby hit a new career record to open the drive with a 12 yard completion along the right sideline.
The Wildcats continued their march down the field, hitting Binkowski for 7 and letting Mace do his thing on the next two plays for gains on the ground of 18 and 8 yards.
A run on 3rd and 3 by Isaiah Ragland added 14 yards, sending the Wildcats deep into the redzone.
To cap it off, McQuaide found Ragland who snuck up the middle for a short pass before turning up field and breaking the plane easily. 9 plays for 71 yards, 5:31.

Pioneers Looking For Anything, Eberhart Answers - End of 3Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 27
Jack Snyder had to take a play off after getting his helmet ripped off by the facemask. The officials missed the call, however.
On Snyder's next play in, he found Eberhart in midfield for a 23 yard completion and another 21 yards after the catch.
A few plays later, Trey Eberhart ran it up the middle and seemed to disappear from the Nova defense's eyes. He gained 39 yards and pushed Sacred Heart into the redzone and take things into the final quarter.
Ragland Gets 49 Yard Gain, Results In Nova FG - 2:31 3Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 27
The Villanova offense is feeling comfortable, spreading the love around the field not only through the air but also on the ground.
Isaiah Ragland earned his longest run of the year on 1st and 10, making some very Ja'briel Mace-like moves to find an opening and run it 49 yards up the field.
Two big rush stops by Sacred Heart forced another Jack Barnum field goal from 29 yards leaving just two and a half minutes left in the quarter.

Sacred Heart Fails 4th And 2 - 7:17 3Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 24
Palmieri made the catch on a 2nd and 10 delivery by Snyder, nearly 30 yards up the field for a SHU first down. Summers was called for his second false start of the game just two plays later—adding to his struggles this afternoon in Pennsylvania.
A few plays later, Snyder went to Palmieri again on 3rd and 8. He was able to bring the contested ball down for a 6 yard gain and set up 4th and 2.
On 4th and 2, Snyder passed it short to the right where McGuire was unable to make the catch.
Wildcats Settle For Field Goal - 8:56 3Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 24
It took more than five minutes but the home squad settled for a Jack Barnum field goal after the 10-play, 44 yard drive.
Nova Personal Fouls Stall Momentum Temporarily - 9:55 3Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 21
Without a few personal fouls to start the 3rd quarter, Villanova may have already extended their lead. Instead, they were dealt a 50+ yard deficit to open their first drive of the half.
That wasn't enough to stop them, however. McQuaide went right back to the air on 1st and long—finding Kopecki to reset the line of scrimmage for 2nd and 10.
They followed it up with another huge play, finding room for Ja'briel Mace to break through and get inside the ten to set up the scoring chance.
Sacred Heart Fumbles, Gives It Over To Nova - 15:00 3Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 21
Sacred Heart took back over as the second half got started.
Snyder quickly flipped it out to Logan Lyson for a screen along the right sideline for a short gain.
One play later, Snyder completed a pass to Kevin McGuire to the left for a 5 yard gain but he fumbled as he was tackled. Villanova's Turner Inge snagged it and ran it all the way to the 1 yard line. During the play, VIL's Kimmel was called for a 15-yard personal foul to bring it back about 45 yards but they kept possession.

The numbers tell it all—if Sacred Heart wants a chance at this game, they'll need to get their potentially dangerous running game working and find gaps through the stalwart Nova defense with all of the momentum in their hands.

Villanova's Two Minute Offense Takes Over, Penalties Fly - 0:36
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 14
Villanova picked up the pace quite a bit as the final two minutes of the half ticked off the clock.
McQuaide's passing game built progressively, hitting four different receivers en route to their two-score lead.
He found Colella, Colby, and Binkowski for four double-digit gains in the air on the drive.
On 2nd and 10, McQuaide took a chance downfield to Colby, but it was swatted down by SHU's secondary and nearly intercepted.
There was a flag on the play, a holding call on Ja'briel Mace to set them back 10 yards.
On the following play, a pass interference penalty was called on George Inge who harassed Luke Colella trying to bring down the ball in the endzone.
Villanova Builds Into 2-Minute Timout - 2:00 2Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 14
The next drive for the Wildcats opened with a 9-yard sack on Pat McQuaide by Peter Schanne to send the line of scrimmage back to the 11.
The next play, McQuaide found Ragland for a screen and 14 yard gain to send them to 3rd and 5.
Sticking to the air, McQuaide went to Brandon Binkowski for what was going to be his first catch since September, a 16 yard completion along the left sideline.
During the two minute timeout, the play was reviewed and determined to be an incomplete pass overturning the call on the field and sending the Wildcats back to 2nd and 10 on the VIL32.
SHU Comes Up Empty Handed After Blocked FG - 4:08 2Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 14
On 4th and 10, the Matt Kling 31-yard field goal attempt was swatted, taking a lot of its momentum out before bouncing out of the back of the endzone to give the home team the ball and leave the Pioneers empty handed after the 10-play, 43 yard drive.
Snyder Finds Rhoades 32 Yards Deep - 5:15 2Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 14
After two broken up plays and a 5-yard false start penalty, SHU had to dig themselves out of a hole.
They got to work quickly—on 3rd and 12, Jack Snyder found Rhoades deep up the right for a 32 yard completion.
With a fresh set of downs, they went to Summers on the next play and got to work in the redzone with less than half of the quarter remaining.
On 3rd and 10, Snyder took a shot for the endzone where Brown was running to make the catch. It was broken up by Josh Oluremi while Shane Hartzell pressured Snyder in the pocket.
The field goal attempt was blocked by Capri Martin.
Villanova Turns Over On Downs - 7:50 2Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 14
Pat McQuaide is looking supremely comfortable behind this Villanova o-line, finding just enough time and space to get the ball to Chris Colby 18 yards up field through the middle.
He found Colby again along the left side after the faked handoff for an 8 yard gain to set up 3rd and 3.
On 3rd down, the Wildcats went to Ragland for a rush to the left but he was brought down for a loss of two—TFL credited to Kymari Latney.
They went for it on 4th and 5 but McQuaide aired it out to the sideline for the turnover on downs. SHU ball on SHU43.
SHU Woes Continue, Three And Out - 12:30 2Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 14
The Wildcats earned another big stop, covering all of Sacred Heart's attempts to get downfield. They tried Summers to the right, who was able to get 6 yards, but a big stop on a completion to Palmieri held the Pioneers behind the line.
They punted it on 4th and 1. Fair catch by Braden Reed on VIL28.
Touchdown: 50 Yard Colby Catch Sets Up Mace Rushing TD - 13:19 2Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 14
On the next drive after the touchdown, the Wildcats went to Mace on the ground to open things up. This time, SHU made the stop after a short gain.
On 2nd and 6, McQuaide went deep up the middle to Luke Colella but it was overthrown. They chased it up on the next play, this time to Chris Colby 50 yards up the left sideline who waited for the ball to drop right into his basket for the play.
On the very next play, Ja'briel Mace found an opening off the left shoulder of Temi Ajirotutu and making the dive for the pylon. His second TD of the day for 106 yards.

Sacred Heart Tried To Rebound, Running Game Fell Short - End of 1Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 7
Jack Snyder and the Pioneers took the ball back over to see if they can return the favor with their own visit to the endzone after the three and out.
Villanova's defense made the stop after an 8-play, 26 yard drive that ate up five minutes of the clock.
The visitors were given an easy second chance thanks to a 15-yard personal foul on Jason Hall, extending the drive for free on 3rd and 7.
Snyder's been able to make completions in the air for short gains, but an average of -0.2 yards per rush for a team that relies so heavily on it will keep them out of the endzone.
Touchdown: Ja'briel Mace Rushes For 80 Yard Touchdown - 5:02 1Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 7
After spending half of the quarter out of the game, Ja'briel Mace returned to the game. On a handoff in the backfield, he returned it all the way to the house for 80 yards and the first touchdown of the afternoon.
He once again relied on his shift moves, rapid acceleration and excellent footwork along the sideline to make it work.
His 6th play of the year for more than 50 yards—we've come to expect this from this kid, a national talent.

Snyder Fumbles, Loses 15 Yards Before Punting - 5:16 1Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 0
Just moments after it looked like Sacred Heart was building offensive momentum, the Villanova defensive pressured the pocket and ran Snyder out to the edge where he attempted to make a pass but it was swatted out of his hand.
A lucky bounce took the ball out of bounds but it wasn't without losing 15 yards first.
SHU punted on 4th and 26.
Summers Already Being Relied On By SHU, Extends On 4th - 6:50 1Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 0
Mitchell Summers was given the ball four times out of the first seven plays if that tells you anything about how he fits into this SHU offensive playbook.
An 18 yard completion to Payton Rhoades exploited open space along the right side in Villanova's defense, breaking tackles along the way.
On 4th and 2, Snyder snapped it from the shotgun with Summers on his right.
After the snap, he quickly threw it out to Jason Palmieri for a great conversion—they were 61% on 4th down attempts going into this game, expect this today.
Sacred Heart Defense Stops Nova, Three And Out - 11:22 1Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 0
Villanova was forced to punt it away, being held to the first three and out of the game by a stalwart SHU defense.
McQuaide tried a pass to Luke Colella for a short gain and taking it into his own hands, scrambling for 5 yards on third down—but it wasn't good enough. Luke Larsen punted it away to VIL23 give SHU another chance at the endzone.
Pioneers Capitalize On Turnover, Field Goal - 13:01 1Q
Sacred Heart 3, Villanova 0
Jack Snyder and the Sacred Heart offense had to settle for a field goal after the big fumble to open the game. Matt Kling kicked it through from 37 yards out to add the first points to the board.

On the second play of the game for the Wildcats on the offense, a big hit by Chase Shallow knocked the ball right out of Ja'briel Mace's arms before Kymari Shu Latney was able to cover it up.
An unfortunate fumble for a Villanova team that's kept their turnovers to single digits all season long.
Wildcats Get The Ball First - 15:00 1Q
Sacred Heart 0, Villanova 0
Sacred Heart called heads and won the toss. Sacred Heart deferred to receive the ball in the second half, potentially falling into Villanova's favor. The Wildcats have decided to receive the ball after winning the toss a few times this season.
Ja'briel Mace made the catch in the endzone for the touchback, limiting his earliest opportunity to blow the game up in the kickoff.

CAA Football Week 13 Previews & Predictions: Rhode Island Eyes Championship
FloFootball contributor Kyle Kensing is our resident CAA expert and he's broken it all down for you here. Here's what he had to say about today's matchup:
"Villanova concluded its CAA football slate both for 2025 and the foreseeable future in a 30-27 overtime win last week over Stony Brook. The Wildcats still have hope of leaving for the Patriot League with one last CAA football championship.
That's out of Villanova's control, however. What is in the Wildcats' control is closing out the regular season strong in pursuit of a potential 1st Round bye for the FCS Playoffs. With a win over Sacred Heart, Villanova can head into the postseason on an eight-game winning streak and with a 9-2 overall record.
The Pioneers head to the Main Line, aiming to play spoiler and send a resounding message to their new home conference. Sacred Heart joins CAA football in 2026 after a quarter-century in the Northeastern Conference, which included six league championships. The first of those came with current Rhode Island coach Jim Fleming at the helm.
Mark Norfi, Sacred Heart's current head coach, is responsible for leading the Pioneers to the other five. Sacred Heart could not compete for the 2025 NEC title, but the Pioneers do have an outside chance of securing an at-large FCS Playoffs berth at 8-3. Two of their losses came against top-five-ranked opponents, Lehigh and Montana, and reaching nine wins with a road win over top-10-ranked Villanova would make quite the statement.
Sacred Heart heads into Villanova averaging more than 30 points per game behind a multifaceted rushing attack. Running back Mitchell Summers has carried for more than 1,000 yards and has 12 touchdowns, while dual-threat quarterback Jack Snyder has run for 562 yards and seven scores with another 1,571 and 10 through the air."
