Rhode Island and Villanova are locked in a fierce battle for the top of the CAA standings.

With just one final test against Hampton standing between No. 9 Rhode Island and a flawless CAA regular season, the Rams looked every bit like conference leaders in a dominant 45–13 win over Maine. The victory handed the Black Bears their second conference loss and kept URI firmly in the driver’s seat heading into the final stretch.

But while Rhode Island controls the CAA race, No. 7 Villanova continues to own the national spotlight. The Wildcats extended their seven-week win streak with a nail-biting 30–27 win over Stony Brook.

A late fourth quarter field goal by Stony Brook tied the score 24-24, sending the game into overtime. The Seawolves managed a field goal but Villanova notched at touchdown. With the win, Villanova closes out its CAA regular-season slate at 7–1.

Meanwhile, No. 11 Monmouth, sitting third in the conference, delivered last week’s most explosive performance. The resounding 63–19 rout of N.C. A&T that showcased the Hawks’ high-powered offense at full throttle. William & Mary wasn’t far behind, posting its own statement victory with a 41-point drubbing of Hampton.

If Monmouth tops UAlbany in their final game, the Hawks will tie Villanova with the  7–1 CAA record.

Further down the standings, UNH, Elon, and Towson all secured important wins as the CAA picture begins to sharpen. With just a handful of games left, every score, stop and snap carries weight.

The race for the conference crown is tightening by the minute.
