Happy Selection Sunday to all who celebrate as many college football fans out there treat this day as importantly as Thanksgiving or Christmas. It is a day where teams will either rejoice because they get to keep the pads on for a little longer, or regroup and start prep for the 2026 season. 

In D2 football, the playoff race is going to be a fun one as chaos has found a way to shake up rankings, records and conference title winners week in and week out. 

So with 16 auto-bids and 16 at-large bids, let's see how Selection Sunday has worked out for D2 football this year. 

The 2025 NCAA D2 Playoff Bracket

Who Are The 1-Seeds?

With four super regions in D2 football, there are four one-seeds in the the 32-team playoff field. Here are the one-seeds for each super region. 

Super Region 1

The Kutztown University Golden Bears snag the top seed in super region one.  The undefeated Golden Bears are the PSAC champions in 2025. The Golden Bears will take on Bentley in round one. 

Super Region 2

The Albany State Golden Rams claim the No. 1 seed in super region two. The 10-1 Golden Rams are the SIAC championship winner. Albany State will host Valdosta State in the opening round of the D2 playoffs.

Super Region 3

The Ferris State Bulldogs, to no one's surprise, claims the one-seed in super region three. The reigning national champions and 2025 GLIAC champions, will look to repeat and already being 11-0 on the season helps this team for sure. The Bulldogs will host Northwood in the first round.  

Super Region 4

Last but certainly not least, the Harding Bisons claim the top-seed in super region four. The 2025 GAC champion are 11-0 on the season. The Bisons will host Northwest Missouri State in round one. 

Who Are The 16 Auto-Bid Winners? 

In D2 football and courtesy of the new rule adjustment, 16 conference winners all received an auto-bid to this year's D2 playoff. Here are the auto-bid teams. 

Please note that due to co-championships in conferences, that not all co-champions secured an auto-bid spot in the bracket.

When Are The First Playoff Matchups?

The first round of the D2 NCAA playoff will take place on Nov. 22. All 32 teams will take the field to determine the round two games slated for kickoff on Nov. 29. 

When Is The NCAA D2 National Championship Game?

The  D2 National Championship will be held in McKinney, Texas on Dec. 20. The two remaining teams will square off for the national title.
